Is this a problem?
<http://www.businessweek.com/technology/cnet/stories/5055759.htm>

Dump if it's a dupe, but wouldn't this be a difficulty for windows-based voting machines too?

"The warning came Friday, after hackers from the Chinese X Focus security group forwarded source code to several public security lists. The code is for a program designed to allow an intruder to enter Windows computers. The X Focus program takes advantage of a hole in the Microsoft operating system that lets attackers break in remotely. The flaw has been characterized by some security experts as the most widespread ever found in Windows."

When this came in my email, the phrasing made me think hoax, but then I found it in Business Week so....

Abby (technologically ignorant so tell me what's what)

1. Well, therein lies the problem of running something as important
as a voting machine on Windows

2. Important! Need DU researchers on this...
I need to find this "Chinese hack" to do a comparison. It is really important that I find the "example" code.

If anyone has seen the actual example code anywhere, please PM me the address.

3. Windows RPC Buffer Overflow Warning
<http://www.microsoft.com/security/security_bulletins/ms03-026.asp>

The above link is to Microsoft's end user explanation of the recently-discovered RPC vulnerability.

There was a brief and slightly technical thread on this on one of the Security Focus lists I subscribe to, but it would probably be more confusing to have me try and explain this than it would to just read the Gates Notes version at the link above.
