then President Carter???????????????

Under these circumstances or situations, would the Americans have forgiven then President Carter????????????? Or had the US hostages been successfully released earlier on in the hostage incident?, had Desert One or Eagle's Claw succeeeded or had the hostages successfully took matters into their own hands and escaped? (though if no American captives escaped at the time, except for the 6 who escaped through the Canadian Embassy, I read that it was not for lack of trying since some other hostages tried to escape but failed and were also punished by their captors for it.).
