Send a thank you letter to CNN
although they don't give the best coverage, send a letter to CNN and thank them for giving fairly extensive coverage of what is going on in Miami.

http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form1.html?32

Tell them what you liked about their coverage and tell them what you didn't like. For example, the reporter said that the people there were "people on the fringe". I think that is false because there are unions there and they are pretty mainstream.

Maybe they should be called "political activists".

Whatever you believe, just send them letters of thanks so they can be steered in the left direction, not the right.

3. I thank people for doing their job.... all the time
When the counterperson at the pizza place hands me my change, or brings me my pizza... etc. All the time.

It never hurts to say thank you.

13. I agree with the sentiment.
But if I knew the person at the counter was selling food that was rotten, I wouldn't thank them. I would say, "This is rotten, could I get something good, please?"

8. they're not doing their job
their job would be to do in-depth coverage on the FTAA itself, not just the violent clashes between protestors and police

2. I don't know
Edited on Thu Nov-20-03 12:25 PM by StClone
The CNN in-studio news lady repeadedly noted that there was much violance in direct contrast to the on-the-scene report saying that there was a few minor instances. Police pushing away non-violent, non-permitted protests was the major source of tension. They were pre-emptive in keeping things under control no matter how peaceful the protest.

4. While you're at it, tell them you don't need updates on

Michael Freak-o Jackson every ten minutes. I turend on CNN looking for news on Miami, Turkey, London, and got "Jack-O" -- switched to MSNBC and got the same.

12. Exactly. I can't turn on the news to see bush protests...
or the FL protests because I don't want to hear about Jackson, Kobe and Peterson.

5. I don't think so...
CNN is doing the usual corporate media hack job. In 1999, they did the same thing in my city with the WTO protests. The police were the first one to start the violence. They started pepper spraying and gassing peaceful people who were chained together in an intersection. Yet, most of America believes it was the protesters who were "violent."

My guess is that we'll hear the same story for Miami. Of course, you won't hear the specific issues that people are protesting against.
Meanwhile, we will get every minute detail of the Michael Jackson + Lacey Peterson case.

No. These people will not be getting any thank you letters from me.

7. FUCK CNN!
If they wanted to cover something, they could talk about what the FTAA means and why these people are protesting it. Showing the protests and marches means precisely DICK!

14. Hey... I'll thank you for this link!
I just used it to say they have real news to present, so they need to do their job and stop drooling over Jackson's alleged sexual escapades.
