1. Oh this IS a fine day for news on talkingpoints........
thanks for the heads up.

Guess what? it's also Monica Lewinsky's birthday! (according to morford!)

I loved this:

As one Administration source put it, privately, today: "Between Tenet and Hadley, Condi now has the choice of saying she's a fool, or a liar…if not both. Bottom line is she failed to protect the President…look at all this lame stuff about him not being a 'fact checker'. It's just incredible."

**** I vote for condi admitting she is both a fool AND a liar......

2. Oh but wait...........this is really SCARY: Wolfowitz head of the CIA?????
"reported talk of trying to replace Tenet with Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz"

That is a FREAKY scenario...............a mind-blower.......and ticket to Canada right away!!!!!!!

4. Wouldnt the cia pragmatists hate his guts?
(wolfowitz)
This is a non starter now imo! But indeed if it came to pass... a horror, and many more innocent people will die.

13. "this will never come to pass" is not in my vernacular ANY MORE!
Sorry.......anything can get through the senate and house these days.........

But the "pragmatists" might take care of the problem quietly (and at night). No doubt.

5. Don't worry, he would never get past
a Senate confirmation hearing at this point.

His current position did not require congressional approval as far as I know.

6. This makes my day, too!
I suspected the Niger story was the tip of the iceberg, to use a hackneyed phrase, and this is proof. And now we have the 9/11 report. It is time to "move on" - to more scandals! BTW, what gets me is that quote that says Bush needs to step in to stop the CIA-WH war. I imagine Chimpy still living in his messianic fantasy world and refuses to believe what's going on around him.

11. Krugman predicted this
Last week, he said they would try to replace Tenet with someone who would stonewall any investigation into bush lies WRT Iraq. But appointing Wolfowitz is even more egregious than that Kissinger-9/11 appointment.

27. Off topic warning
Speaking of Monica: A few years ago on her birthday, I sent her a dry cleaning coupon, just for laughs. She didn't write me back, and I'm still crushed.

9. Does anyone see the irony....
Edited on Wed Jul-23-03 07:56 PM by DEMActivist
In Poppy Bush's CIA taking down the Puppet Son?

Or, perhaps, as I've said before....there's no irony in it.
Perhaps Poppy doesn't appreciate that the Puppet Handlers (Rumsfeld & Cheney) slipped the leash after 9/11.

yeah, I did notice the irony. I was watching "All The Presidents Men" tonight thinking: this cannot be all! There has to be more!"

16. Anyone know what this Nelson Report is?
This is scary:

-- today, while no one wanted to speculate about Rummy and Cheney, in the absence of new disclosures, disparate Administration sources confirm that it is "generally accepted" that Tenet will be fired from the CIA, if only because of what he started last week.

What was that called under Nixon, when he fired the special prosecutor?

20. Thanks! And wasn't The Saturday Night Massacre
the beginning of the end for Nixon? I think that event finally tipped the scales against him, as far as everyone realizing just what a dirty game he was playing. Right?

I think it's some sort of insider national security/CIA report.

Interesting, he's focused on Asia:

http://www.hillnews.com/news/031203/nkorea.aspx

Chris Nelson, author of an influential daily newsletter focusing on Asia, the Nelson Report, said, “Congress was slow to recognize that the Bush policy of aggressive non-engagement risked producing the crisis that we now face.”

24. Here's a link to the Nelson Report--it's a blog
Edited on Wed Jul-23-03 11:37 PM by berry
http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/chris/

It's mentioned here and there, always as highly reliable and with lots of insider info. Worth keeping an eye on, but Josh Marshall usually also alerts us if Nelson comes up with something special.

Oh--also should say that though his insider-ness probably is in relation to Asia policy, his blog is general. So today something about Uday and Qusay. Also heads-ups about articles in the press and other blogs.

(My only gripe with it is that even when I enlarge the type to the max, it's hard on the eyes.)

25. I think thats a big part
And it sticks in the craw of the pundits to say his name in (fake) admiration, which has got to be fun for him to watch... and they (rw demon pundits) will have to go easier on him when the report comes out maybe... surely his administration will be mentioned?

I think all three are likely the case:)
