1. Good job Clark people!
I'm super impressed that you're using the free software Kuro5hin for this. Get to posting on slashdot and you'll have half the geek vote.

2. I think the Clark team is using a lot of open source tools...
I forget where I read this...perhaps on the blog
itself...but they are using open source tools for email, etc.

5. They are using Open Source everything.
Some of the desktops in Little rock are even linux based. Almost everything on the backend is open source GPL.

6. good strictly from an economic standpoint

7. It really is a waste of money.
They would only be using those licenses for about a year. They couldn't transfer them after that.

4. Not sure I understand this, can someone explain?
I like the idea of rating posts, that then rise to the top of the heap.

8. It's a way to deal with trolls without censorship
Kuro5shin is a message board/forum just like DU, but all members get to rate a post - if it's a troll, you don't censor them or erase the comment, you just moderate it down. Visitors to the site won't see the troll, but if you want, you can set your options to see all messages including those.

The best part is that good posts that we want everyone to pay attention to get moderated up, and gets a more prominent space on the page.

It's basically democracy in action, and the actual concept and software has been thoughly tested on sites like slashdot and kur5shin for many years.

11. DU Used A Program Like That When It Switched Awhile Back
It didn't last long.... there was a spot where you could rate threads.

9. It's cool how it differs from other candidate blogs
I like that it uses a decentralized system where anyone can get their articles posted on the official blog through the rating moderations.

It's not controlled soley by the staffers posting on the official blog.
