Author Links Bush Family to Nazis

The president of the Florida Holocaust Museum said Saturday that George W. Bush's grandfather derived a portion of his personal fortune through his affiliation with a Nazi-controlled bank.

John Loftus, a former prosecutor in the Justice Department's Nazi War Crimes Unit, said his research found that Bush's grandfather, Prescott Bush, was a principal in the Union Banking Corp. in Manhattan in the late 1930s and the 1940s.

Leading Nazi industrialists secretly owned the bank at that time, Loftus said, and were moving money into it through a second bank in Holland even after the United States declared war on Germany. The bank was liquidated in 1951, Loftus said, and Bush's grandfather and great-grandfather received $1.5 million from the bank as part of that dissolution.

"That's where the Bush family fortune came from: It came from the Third Reich," Loftus said.

Loftus made his remarks during a speech as part of the Sarasota Reading Festival. The author of "Unholy Trinity: The Vatican, The Nazis and the Swiss Banks," Loftus documented the Swiss bank accounts that harbored funds confiscated from Holocaust victims and the participation of Italian priests in smuggling Nazi war criminals to safe haven in Canada, Centraland South America and the United States after the war.

Two months before the November 1988 presidential election, a small newspaper, Washington Jewish Week,
disclosed that a coalition for the Bush campaign included a number of outspoken Nazis and anti-Semites. The
article prompted six leaders of Bush's coalition to resign.

According to Russ Bellant, Nazi collaborators involved in the Republican Party included:

1.Radi Slavoff, GOP Heritage Council's executive director, and head of "Bulgarians for Bush." Slavoff was a
member of a Bulgarian fascist group, and he put together an event in Washington honoring Holocaust
denier, Austin App.

2.Florian Galdau, director of GOP outreach efforts among Romanians, and head of "Romanians for Bush."
Galdau was once an Iron Guard recruiter, and he defended convicted Nazi war criminal Valerian Trifa.

3.Nicholas Nazarenko, leader of a Cossack GOP ethnic unit. Nazarenko was an ex-Waffen SS officer.

4.Method Balco, GOP activist. Balco organized yearly memorials for a Nazi puppet regime.

5.Walter Melianovich, head of the GOP's Byelorussian unit. Melianovich worked closely with many Nazi
groups.

6.Bohdan Fedorak, leader of "Ukrainians for Bush." Fedorak headed a Nazi group involved in anti-Jewish
wartime pogroms.

The Philadelphia Inquirer ran an article on the Bush team's inclusion of Nazis (David Lee Preston, "Fired Bush
backer one of several with possible Nazi links," September 10, 1988.) The newspaper also ran an investigative
series on Nazi members of the Bush coalition. The article confirmed that the Bush team included members
listed by Russ Bellant.

Journalist Martin A. Lee, has written for The Nation, Rolling Stone, The San Francisco Chronicle, and other
publications. In THE BEAST REAWAKENS, Lee confirms that during both the Reagan and Bush years, the
Republican Party's ethnic outreach arm recruited members from the Nazi émigré network.

The relationship between fascist individuals and organizations from World War 2 and the Republican Party and the connections between German and American capitalists


Both Democrats and Republicans are corporate-controlled parties. However, the Republicans have a deeper historical involvement with fascist individuals and groups from World War 2, including former SS officers. When Nazi troops conquered the Eastern European countries, they found and nurtured fascist parties like the Romanian Iron Guard, Hungarian Arrow Cross, Croatian Ustashi, Bulgarian Legion, Latvian Legion, Byelorussian Belarus Brigade, Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and Cossack SS officers. These fascists helped the Nazis carry on their atrocities, such as the extermination of Jews, communists, Gypsies, disabled people and others considered to be undesirable. Also, they formed Waffen SS divisions to fight against the Soviet Union.

The Republican Heritage Groups Council, a part of the Republican National Committee, has had members like Laszlo Pasztor from the Hungarian Arrow Cross, Florian Galdau of the Romanian Iron Guard and Nicolas Nazarenko, the leader of a Cossack SS division. Other members include Walter Melianovich affiliated with the Belarus Brigade, Method Balco associated with Slovak fascists from their puppet Nazi government and Philip Guarino, an Italian fascist leader of the P-2 Masonic Lodge. After World War 2, this P-2 organization in cooperation with the CIA conducted a series of terrorist bombings in Italy (Operation Gladio), which were blamed on leftists. These incidents effectively diminished the stature of the Italian Communist Party, which was on the verge of winning elections. All of this information is in a well-documented book called Old Nazis, the New Right and the Republican Party by Russ Bellant.

Remember when Republican President Ronald Reagan visited Bitburg cemetery in Germany, where Nazi SS troops were buried, and called them "victims" and stated that American soldiers who fought for the International Brigades in Spain were on the wrong side. Every once in a while, these people forget themselves and reveal where their true sympathies lie.

A carefully kept secret is the strong sympathy and corporate connections that existed between many of the most powerful American capitalists and German capitalists and their fascist system. Rockefeller-owned Standard Oil of New Jersey had close patent and other ties to I.G. Farben, the giant German corporation that used slave labor at Auschwitz. Standard Oil delivered oil to the Nazis through Switzerland and Spain and even refueled German submarines at Teneriffe in the Canary Islands. At the back of a book called Trading With the Enemy by Charles Higham is a photocopy of an intelligence document from an American officer complaining about this refueling operation and the presence of Nazi officers on Standard's oil tankers. Standard Oil also made tetraethyl lead and synthetic rubber available to the Nazis. Tetraethyl lead is an essential ingredient in aviation gasoline. Standard Oil was investigated several times by Congressional committees for trading with the enemy, but they were too powerful for anything substantive to be done. Chase Bank, also owned by Rockefeller, stayed open in Paris all during the war and helped finance the Nazis.

In another Simpson book, "The Splendid Blonde Beast," the author wrote about George H. W. Bush's father, Prescott, and his maternal grandfather, George Herbert Walker. Both Bert Walker and Prescott Bush were powerful financial supporters of Adolf Hitler.

Walker was president of Union Banking Corporation, a firm that traded with Germany and helped German industrialists consolidate Hitler's political power. Simpson says Union Banking became a Nazi money-laundering machine.

"Prescott Bush and George Herbert (Bert) Walker were directors of the London-affiliated New York banking house of Brown Brothers-Harriman and its various fronts, which funded and directed the military-industrial complex behind Hitler and the Nazi revolution. In 1919, George Herbert Walker had organized W. A. Harriman & Co., which merged with the British Brown Brothers in 1931. According to government documents, "all of the shares of the Union Banking Corp., were held for the benefit of members of the Thyssen family." In 1942, the U.S. government investigative report that surfaced during 1945 Senate hearings found that the Union Bank, with Prescott Bush on the board, was an "interlocking concern" with the German Steel Trust that had produced: 50.8% of Nazi Germany's pig iron, 41.4% of Nazi Germany's universal plate, 36% of Nazi Germany's heavy plate, 38.5% of Nazi Germany's galvanized sheet, 45.5% of Nazi Germany's pipes and tubes, 22.1% of Nazi Germanys wire, and 35% of Nazi Germany's explosives."

Perhaps, fresh in the mind of the citizens of this great nation at the time, were the words of Randolph Bourne in his work "War is the health of the state" and General Smedley Butler's "War is a racket".

WASHINGTON -- President Bush's grandfather was a director of a bank seized by the federal government because of its ties to a German industrialist who helped bankroll Adolf Hitler's rise to power, government documents show.

Prescott Bush was one of seven directors of Union Banking Corp., a New York investment bank owned by a bank controlled by the Thyssen family, according to recently declassified National Archives documents reviewed by the Associated Press.

Fritz Thyssen was an early financial supporter of Hitler, and Thyssen thought Hitler's Nazi party was preferable to communism. The documents do not show any evidence that Bush directly aided that effort. His position with Union Banking never was a political issue for Bush, who was elected to the Senate from Connecticut in 1952.

Reports of Bush's involvement with the seized bank have been circulating on the Internet for years and have been reported by some mainstream media. The newly declassified documents provide additional details about the Union Banking-Thyssen connection.

If Ralph Nader's family had obtained great wealth from a grandfather's work on behalf of the Nazis would the media remain quiet about it? What did Prescott do when he then learned his business associate was a traitor? Did he immediately denounce him? On the contrary "The Bushes...stuck with the Farrishes through their disastrous exposure during WW2 ." (Tarpley and Chaitkin 77).

Not only this: the Bushs have maintained friendly relations with the Farrishs ever since, as Pete Brewton notes. Brewton also tells us that between l980 and l985 Neil Strauss who is related to Robert Strauss, the U.S. Ambassador to Moscow, "participated in a noteworthy land purchase. They bought a 21,185 acre ranch northwest of Houston. ..from the family of the late Nicaraguan dictator Anastasio Somoza Debayle. Somoza's family, consisting of his nephews and cousins, purchased the ranch in September, l977 from William Stamps Farrish III. Farrish, the grandson of a founder of Exxon, is one of George Bush's friends and has handled Bush's blind trust investments. . . Every autumn, Bush visits Ferret's ranch near Beeville in South Texas to hunt quail." (Brewton 354). It's bizarre that the words blind trust, even in the banking sense, should be applied to that relationship. Perhaps the Third is a friend, but the First was definitely an enemy, in effect, of George Bush, just in terms of day to day combat-related activity in WW2! (See "Get Mad, George!" in the present book for more on these questionable friendships.) What are we to say of the patriotism of these men? Certainly, Prescott and his friends made some money off the Second World War. Their boss, Mr. Rockefeller, also wrote a letter to Nazi Germany in 1939 that renewed its agreements with the Nazis andwhich made it clear that the Rockefellers' company was prepared to work with the Nazis whether their own government was at war with the Third Reich or not. (Loftus and Aarons 63-7).

I thought most people were well aware of that fact.

It's almost funny in a black humor sort of way. So many Americans think that this nation has always acted from the noblest motives and ideals. Doesn't anyone ever look to see who is getting rich in wartime? Iraq is nothing new. Maybe because of more communication we know a few more details, but this stuff is as old as the hills.
