Dont eat before you read this.
Edited on Wed Oct-22-03 03:29 PM by Mari333
People close to the president say that his conversion to evangelical Methodism, after a life of aimless carousing, markedly informs his policies, both foreign and domestic. In the soon-to-be-published The Faith of George W. Bush (Tarcher/Penguin), a sympathetic account of this religious journey, author Stephen Mansfield writes (in the advance proofs) that in the election year 2000, Bush told Texas preacher James Robison, one of his spiritual mentors: "I feel like God wants me to run for president. I can't explain it, but I sense my country is going to need me. . . . I know it won't be easy on me or my family, but God wants me to do it."

Mansfield also reports: "Aides found him face down on the floor in prayer in the Oval Office. It became known that he refused to eat sweets while American troops were in Iraq, a partial fast seldom reported of an American president.>>>

20. Apparently he is AWOL from even this stupid little symbolic gesture
(this thanks to Atrios http://atrios.blogspot.com/ )

Bush was in an expansive mood on the flight from Indonesia to Australia, wearing an Air Force One flight jacket, snacking noisily on a butterscotch sweet and chopping the air for emphasis.

6. "face down on the floor?"
I know a lot of Methodists but I've never seen anyone pray "face down on the floor". Maybe he just passed out.

19. It's called multitasking!
I started my wildly profitable "Christian Crack Whore Ministry" franchise after seeing a roving pack of strung-out streetwalkers from the back seat of one of my ministry Bentleys. To spend so much of one's day on one's knees without praying struck me as an appalling oversight of the possibilities of multitasking! I mean, if you're going to be on your knees 14-25 times a day, why not pray while they're down there?

14. His country needed him during vietnam
"I feel like God wants me to run for president. I can't explain it, but I sense my country is going to need me. . . . I know it won't be easy on me or my family, but God wants me to do it."

His country needed him during vietnam but he passed. I guess it is easier to serve your country when you have secret service agents willing/required to take a bullet for you. Unfortunately, you can't say the same fighting a war. What a total and complete moron!

15. On the bright side
A book like that might work miracles for his popularity.

My crystal ball says this might be the final blow. His ratings will be face down on the floor next.

16. "He sensed that Carlyle Group and Halliburton needed him"
Edited on Wed Oct-22-03 04:13 PM by lunabush
because one day he awoke on the floor in a big pile of his own vomit with his dad kicking his ass saying, "Wake up ya fuckin' drunk - the Carlyle Group and Halliburton need you." Remember all those businesses you fucked up and we bailed you out of? We need you to go fuck up the country, too. Oh, and while you're at it, you waste of human flesh, make sure and take the UK with you - Uncle Dick and Karl will work with you, they got a humdinger of a plan, and you'll get hang with Saddam and Osama again. It'll be a piece of cake - just don't drop the damn dog.

22. talk about making a virtue out of a necessity!

I suspect his talk of "giving up sweets" had more to do with the visible paunch he was developing, which contradicted all the WH spin about how fit and tough he was!

And as for being found lying on the floor -- I find it a lot easier to believe he was a) klutzy or b) lazy, than flaked out in sheer religious devotion.
