A revealing (racist) exchange with GOP friend

I have a friend who is a huge Bush supporter, in deep with the religious right. She thinks, STILL, that Bush is a "good Christian man" and therefore I should never complain about him. She's a southern country girl, unfortunately still has some racist tendencies.

I sent her a few pictures of my current girlfriend, from our cruise. She writes back:

That second line is referring to my previous girlfriend, who was half-Japanese. A full American citizen, mind you, just not a "normal" white girl. So I wrote back:

> Uh, my previous girlfriend was *American* also. Her mom is Japanese, but she is an American citizen, her father a career Army officer. I suspect you're conflating being American with being *white*. Yep, you're a Republican alright.

I think her racism is showing...

"Glad she's american..." Huh? What? It's that easy to tell, eh?

My wife is Russian (and has no interest in American citizenship), but looking at a picture, she's as white as the driven snow and therefore American (by her logic).

Maybe I missed something (I often do), but that seems more like a lack of common sense than it does racism. :-)

6. Well, we actually don't talk that much any more

Despite the description I gave, she's used to be a lot of fun to hang out with. But she's gotten much more "religious" over the past several years, gotten sucked in by one of these big right-wing politically active churches. She's always been conservative, but now if you mention politics she just turns into a robo-Puke. Sad, really.

And she'll probably never talk to me again after my reply. She *hates* being called on her prejudices.

As most do. What used to make the TV show "All In The Family" so funny was that poor old Archie Bunker didn't consider himself a bigoted racist.

Seriously, where would we be right now and what would this country be like (worse?) without all the great diversity and cultures we are so fortunate to have?
