Woodward Said Novak's Source "Was Not in the White House"

Over roast beef at IOP, reporter hinted at deeper knowledge

Published On Monday, December 19, 2005 11:23 PM

By ZACHARY M. SEWARD

As reporters barraged the White House last week with renewed questions on the CIA leak case, one of the Washington press corps’ own may have been holding on to a key part of the mystery.

Bob Woodward, the Washington Post’s distinguished reporter and associate managing editor, has already faced scrutiny for his role in the disclosure of Valerie Plame’s undercover status at the CIA. But in a conversation at Harvard earlier this month, Woodward hinted that he knows the identity of yet another key player in the case: Robert D. Novak’s original source for his July 2003 column on Plame, which touched off the scandal in the first place.

“His source was not in the White House, I don’t believe,” Woodward said of Novak over a private dinner at the Institute of Politics on Dec. 5. He did not indicate what information, if any, he had to corroborate the claim.

Woodward was generally far more frank at the dinner than he was before the audience at the Forum. Asked at the dinner whether his readers should worry that he has been “manipulated” by the Bush administration, Woodward replied, “I think you should worry. I mean, I worry.”

Gah. It's come to me believing the Douchebag For Liberty over Bob Woodward!!!

That's really bad.

5. Fuck woodward.....
why should we believe him now? He has done nothing but cloud the issues with his nebulous pronouncements. He has sold his credibility, and he can't buy it back.

8. Woodward cannot be trusted on this matter.
After downplaying its importance while hiding his own role, his credibility is completely compromised.

9. It's sorta been revealed that
the WH played woodward for a sucker. Now he has a (unearned) reputation as a reporter to uphold. So he has to pretend they told him something he probably really just made up himself. If he's worried that he was manipulated, my suggestion is he write a book saying all the kissass stuff he wrote before was bullshit. That would go a long way to help regain his status.

12. So Woodward knows who it is ??
If he knows they are not in the WH, then it follows he knows who it is. Maybe it's time for Fitz to call him back for further questions?

Novak Intelligence Leak: All Roads Lead To Cheney
By William Francis (PP), Oct 18, 2003

Regarding the Wilson intelligence scandal: We need to realize that everything Bush, Novak, and McClellan are SAYING is absolutely true. But everything they're telling us is a lie. We have to remember to listen carefully to the exact words.

Novak originally said that the information about Wilson's wife came from, "two senior administration officials." this is true.

Novak also says that, "Nobody in the Bush administration called me to leak this." this is also true.

There is one man in the world who is BOTH a senior administration official, and does not release information from the administration (from the White House).

There is one man in the world who is a senior administration official, but is not officially (constitutionally) a member of the administration.

There is one man in the world who invested his reputation and resources in the Niger yellowcake story, more than any other.

There was one man in the world who knew of Wilson's trip to Niger as well as he knew about the identity of Wilson's wife.

In preparing his July 14 article, "Mission to Niger," there was one man in the world who Robert Novak would have contacted before any other.

The man's name is Dick Cheney.

18. Stealing Novak's Thunder
Getting more air time by inserting himself into the Novak business. I don't believe the old coot will like that for a sec. Could there be a looming battle over Novak's source? The problem for Woodward is that Vacula likes to actually get physical. Will there be a photo of him knocking Woodward down?

Anything he has to say is almost guaranteed to be tainted.

His credibility on anything concerning this matter is ZERO.
