I would love to see Washington DC but until the cancer in the WH....
is removed I can't bring myself to do it. I want to see the Smithsonian, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, US Mint, and all the other culteral icons but thought of the lieing, evil POSs in control of this government turn my stomach.

6. My favorite place....
....is the American History Museum at the Smithsonian. They've got everything from Archie Bunker's chair to really old computers and an awesome old-fashioned ice-cream parlor! :9

8. Disappointed

The last time I was at the Museum of American History was the day the big stinky flower was blooming in the Botanical Gardens. They have cut waaaaay back on the railroad exhibit. The running gear of the Southern Railway Ps-4 locomotive is now largely hidden. Boo hiss.

4. Was there last year, it was horrible compared to past visits
Edited on Sun Dec-18-05 11:11 AM by linazelle
The White House was wrapped in tarp, and crawling with security. The ground was razed supposedly to build a "mall" in front as a result of 911. THREE YEARS and the White House can't get new fencing and a mall--basically a sidewalk--built?

There were secret service guys in vans riding all around the area in traffic, beyond the White House.

The clear message is (even though I understand that the tarp has now been removed) is that the White House is off limits, it's not ours anymore--they're holed up in there protecting nobody but themselves. It's a shame.

5. Maybe I will make my first trip for the Feingold/Clark Inaugural.
That would be the perfect reason to visit DC.

7. Barbra Streisand turned down the Kennedy Lifetime Achievement
Award because Bush is in the White House. Talk about standing up for what you believe in. I don't blame her;I wouldn't want to receive an award that big from that idiot either. She knows they will ask her again and she'll pick the time she wants to receive it.

9. I lived there during the Reagan and BushI times.
I left during President Clinton's first term.
In spite of Reagan and bushI, I liked DC a lot.

Don't let bush the lesser keep you from visiting.

10. Bu$h does not own the place.

I have contended for some time that the best time of year to see DC is right now, during the holidays. No tourist in his right mind would visit DC then, so all the museums and galleries are wide open. You don't have to wait in line for anything. Further, the museums and galleries are filled with the most glorious poinsettias. The effect is terrific. Air temperatures average in the mid to high 40s; with an overcoat, you will be warm.

Stray from the Mall. Visit the Library of Congress. Double super secret hint? Go to the Willard Hotel and marvel at the drop dead handsome lobby.

Getting inside the Capitol is a harder than before 9/11, and not possible on weekends, I think. I think the Senate is trying to get out of town by today, so you won't see the Capitol as a working office building. Still, you will be able to go to the chambers. I haven't been inside in several years. Your representative's and senators' office staff can fill you in on details.

It's a bright sunny day outside right now, here in northern Virginia. People will be running, they will be bicycling, and they will be walking around outside.

Don't let Bu$h ruin DC for you.

12. It's not like there's a black cloud of Evil here.
There's still history in this city. Still beauty.

Just because some crooks are currently in the drivers seat doesn't mean this city has become a tarry morass of corruption incarnate which only awaits your approach before devouring your soul.

At least that's my opinion. ;)
