I'm going to be one pretty POed citizen...
I just saw Bush "chastise" those responsible for exposing his illegal wiretapping of Americans. He sounded very defensive and claimed that doing so exposed American operations to the terrorists. So the President spies on his own people--how will that help the terrorists?

Anyway, I'd like to know now if Bush EVER authorized increased surveillance on al Qaeda and bin Laden pre-911. Don't forget, many in law enforcement and the intelligence communities KNEW terrorists were in the US. And don't forget that President Clinton WARNED him about Bin Laden and told him during the customary meeting between incoming and outgoing Presidents that Bin Laden was the NUMBER ONE concern. So did Bush authorize "increased surveillance" on him and his organization? Did Bush authorize "increased surveillance" on Bin Laden's relatives living in the US? And when the PDB of 7/6/01 told him that "bin Laden <is> determined to strike inside US," did Bush authorize "increased surveillance" to thwart that attempt?

If it turns out that Bush failed to increase security during these times, but authorized increased intelligence on Americans, I'm going to be one pretty POed citizen...:grr:

1. It's not about them. It's about us.
When the economy collapses, they will need to keep us under control as we starve and freeze to death.

They've known of peak oil since before 1999, which was when Cheney made one of his speeches on the topic, as I recall reading.

3. Actually..... iffin you want to know the truth.... he told the FBI to
back off the people who helped fund 911. How strange is that?

http://www.gregpalast.com/detail.cfm?artid=103&row=1

But the FBI files were closed in 1996 apparently before any conclusions could be reached on either the Bin Laden brothers or the organisation itself. High-placed intelligence sources in Washington told the Guardian this week: "There were always constraints on investigating the Saudis".

They said the restrictions became worse after the Bush administration took over this year. The intelligence agencies had been told to "back off" from investigations involving other members of the Bin Laden family, the Saudi royals, and possible Saudi links to the acquisition of nuclear weapons by Pakistan.

"There were particular investigations that were effectively killed."

Only after the September 11 attacks was the stance of political and commercial closeness reversed towards the other members of the large Bin Laden clan, who have classed Osama bin Laden as their "black sheep".

5. "There were always constraints on investigating the Saudis".
And this is what I find appalling. Even AFTER 9/11 when it was revealed that 15 of the 19 attackers were from Saudi Arabia, did Bush increase surveillance on Saudi citizens living/working inside the US? And if not, why not?

Ever since I saw Michael Moore's "F/911" and saw him questioned by the US Secret Service because he happened to be standing across the street from the Saudi Embassy in DC with a cameraman, did I finally realized just how much influence the Saudis have in running this country. Or at least this administration. Imagine--someone in the embassy looks out the window and sees MM and a cameraman looking at the embassy from across the street. That someone thinks it should be checked out so the White House is called and the President tells his Secret Service to investigate?!?!? The Secret Service that was created to protect and secure the US President and Vice-President?!?!? Why not the DC police or the FBI?!?!? But the POTUS?!?!?

Here:

DAMN, this makes me angry!

the saudi embassy is protected by the secret service. didn't it actually come out that they have 4 or 6 secret service agents assigned to the embassy?

9. "...they have 4 or 6 secret service agents assigned to the embassy?"
I don't know, but wouldn't be surprised. The Saudis say "Jump!" and Bush says "How high?" I wonder how many other embassies have US Secret Service agents assigned to them?

I'll have to look into this...

4. he didn't listen. he was warned about bin laden and that they
were planning a serious attack on the US. no he didn't investigate and after 9/11 he rushed the bin laden family out of the country without even questionning them. do you think if one of your brothers was involved in a terrorist attack you would be flown out of the country or do you think you would be detained for questionning. even if osama was the "black sheep" his family still should have been questionned.

bush paid no attention before 9/11 because he was busy planning his attack on iraq.

8. The 9/11 whitewash commission gave him 'F's' just last week.
Why isn't this being brought up as he launches his latest propaganda defense of commiting treason to 'protect' us?

10. yes. i know. the media didn't give it too much coverage. instead
of carrying on about "the war on x-mas" o'reilly could have done his job and given this coverage.
