Levee Aid Tied to Arctic Drilling Debate
http://www.nola.com/news/t-p/washington/index.ssf?/base/news-1/113480372711600.xml

WASHINGTON -- Legislation to provide more money for levees and federal grants to help uninsured homeowners rebuild after a devastating hurricane season has become intertwined in the contentious debate over whether to allow drilling in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Negotiators were looking to add a supplemental spending bill for Katrina relief to a must-pass defense spending bill that now is likely to include the Alaskan drilling provision. Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, has told colleagues the drilling measure has its best chance of winning approval as part of a defense bill that also is critical to Gulf Coast lawmakers desperate for Katrina assistance.

<snip>

"We're pulling out all the stops with our people because this is outrageous," Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said. He said it's wrong to add the controversial drilling proposal to a must-pass bill just as Congress is preparing to recess for the year.

Isn't this just like the Republican scum that is in total control of our government at the moment? Tyeing the rebuilding of the Gulf Coast, ravaged by Hurricanes, to the spoiling of the Arctic wilderness for a relatively paltry amount of crude beneath it's surface. Do these scum-bags have ANY sense of decency at all? People are suffering immeasurable pain, both physical and mental because of the devastation left behind from these storms and the Republicans are trying to capitalize on it, trying to get their prized giveaway to the Big Oil Lobby (and Ted Stevens) in the process?

This qualifies for Olberman's "worst people in the world" award, hands down. What scum. What uncaring, opportunistic, vile scum. A big F--- You to Republicans for proposing this measure! :grr:

1. There is just no end in sight to the insults of these "people".
I am so sick of these unethical, pompous, disgusting assholes. It is getting near time to hold a special People's election. That appears to be what it will take. I am willing to bet that there is no way * will leave willing, in three years or in twenty. These people can't risk losing the protection of Government, they are guilty of so much.

2. The bill is strangely incomplete
Wait! I know!

It needs another provision -- one that outlaws using federal money for "abstinence-only" sex ed and the teaching of Intelligent Design.

That's it!

3. No, they have no decency at all.
They never did. They're just as corrupt as corrupt gets. They have 0 compassion for the Katrina victims at all.

5. Yeah......
the "end times" have been near for centuries now. How many people over the centuries have wasted their lives on earth because they're waiting for "the rapture" to take them away to heaven's kingdom? My Grandmother for one. She never did a thing while she was alive, always waiting to be "beamed up" into the kingdom of god. :eyes: What a waste.
