BIG DAWG: To Dems: Get Your Act Together
Clinton To Dems: Get Your Act Together

By Rich Kellman
Senior Correspondent

Former President Bill Clinton returned to Buffalo Wednesday with a message to Democrats: Grab onto the many opportunities Republicans are handing you, and focus your message. "President Nixon looks like a Communist compared to these guys," he said, referring to Republicans in Washington.

Clinton told some 300 local Democrats that Americans are rejecting public policy based on ideology, whether conservative or liberal, and instead want to return to results-based politics. "America is yearning for a sense of purpose and unity," he said at the Buffalo Convention Center.

1. Tell it to your WIFE, Bill
I am so over the Clintons. Why don't you go golfing with Poppy and leave us alone.

9. Actually I think he is her main strategist
since she is running pretty closely as the kind of middle of the road Democrat that Bill ran as in '92 and '96--or "new democrat" as they called it.

14. The ammunition has all been handed to us now!
If the Dems are waiting until next year to use it then we've already 'blown it'!

Plame, Katrina, Frist, Delay, Cunningham, Iraq PR debacle, Able Danger, ad infinitum - what more do the Dems need to galvanize them to action? An election?!

The election is too far in the future for the average American attention span, they'll have forgotten how bad it was. Rove seems to be back in the game now and we all know how good he is at what he does. If they can't show their outrage and disgust now, what's the point in doing it a year from now?

4. Hillary - I don't care how far to the right she goes......
she will not get my support during the primaries. If she makes it to the general election then I'll guess I'll have to just hold my nose and pull the lever.

5. Tell it to Marshall "I'm really a dem" Whittman, Bill
Tell it to the DLC - whose purpose is to destroy FDRs legacy, dividing democrats with theis cause.

7. The DLC is the problem
Sadly, I don't see it being solved, without more pain and bloodshed. The DLC is hung up in the 1970s, and they will never get out.

6. Too bad
I'm new here, but I've visited and I like what I see.

Many democrats aren't listening to him, and are too busy "distancing" themselves from those who are trying to stand for what's right.:puke:

13. They are so afraid of saying anything controversial or that may appear so.
We need leadership not a lesson in waffle making. The waffle sessions are drowning out the leadership voices. I think putting some of these guys in a room and locking the door until they learn how to play together and adopt some team work skills is not such a bad idea.

The Dems and the progressives have the values that appeal to Americans, and Bill is correct on stepping away from ideology and moving toward results. Democratic values are results oriented.

Getting out of the war, finding a way to provide affordable health care, improving education especially with our hard to reach populations, creating jobs, rebuilding our failing infrastructure, decreasing our dependence on oil, working for global equity so we don't have terrorist breeding grounds, and saving our military from war fatigue before another war not of our making crops up. Oh, yes, and defusing the culture wars, which are so closely linked with our currently imperiled civil rights. I hate it that the radical religious right doesn't understand this isn't WASP land any more. We have a society that grows more diverse every day, paradoxically, even as we appear to be more homogenized on so many levels.

8. Depends on the purpose Bill
And the result. Maybe if I had a better idea of exactly what message Bill wants us to focus on. And maybe he needs to talk to Joementum too, because I don't know any Democrat who wants to unify around him.
