RAW STORY UPDATE: Fitz Expects to Ask GJ to INDICT ROVE
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 01:29 PM by kpete
Fitzgerald was concerned that Rove had hidden or destroyed evidence, lawyers close to the case tell RAW STORY. His suspicions may have been right: an email he sent to then Deputy National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley in early July 2003 later proved Rove had spoken to Time magazine reporter Matthew Cooper about Plame—a fact that Rove omitted when he was first interviewed by the FBI.

According to those familiar with the case and earlier reporting by RAW STORY, Fitzgerald had already obtained the cooperation of a key witness, former Deputy National Security Adviser for Vice President Dick Cheney, John Hannah. Hannah agreed to cooperate with Fitzgerald when the special prosecutor uncovered evidence tying Hannah to the leak and threatened to indict him, the sources said.

Hannah gave Fitzgerald the names of some White House officials who knew about Plame Wilson and disseminated her CIA status to reporters and other White House officials, the laywers said. One of the officials Hannah appears to have implicated was Rove, they added. Cheney promoted Hannah to be his assistant national security adviser following Libby’s indictment.

Fitzgerald still looking to indict Rove

Short of a last minute intervention by Rove’s attorney, Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald is expected to ask a grand jury investigating the outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson to indict Deputy White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove for making false statements to the FBI and Justice Department investigators in October 2003, lawyers close to the case say.

1. Later in the article, it says that Fitzgerald is expected to ask for
an indictment of Rove, but the article does not include when this may happen. I wonder where Raw Story gets their info.

10. I have yet to see a case where (in plamegate) rawstory has been wrong
there was that one story the week of Libby's indictment that was incorrect because the source wasn't up on the Rove stalling tactic, but other than that, the rest of the story was right. So, I have to say I believe this one.

23. how about when they said there would be 2 indictments
and then they kept saying day after day that "this is going to be the day!"

and then each day the indictments didn't come...

and of course eventually there was an indictment.

this story is akin to saying "grass will grow! it will be green, Raw Story has learned!"

who would have thought?

it's all sensationalism... and a PR campaign to make big ad bux.

Raw Story's PR people are the same folks promoting the idea that the WTC was hit by aircraft other than the four that were hijacked, and that those people on those aircraft were all employed by the government and are secretly living elsewhere.

30. demobabe, Patrick Fitzgerald was thrown a curve on the Rove indictment at
the very last minute--additional evidence given to him by Rove's lawyer that he had to consider prior to any indictment of Rove. I'm fairly certain that he was about to indict Rove that day (same day as Libby) but, being the meticulous prosecutor that he is (for which we should be thankful), he had to wait and investigate further.

This was not RawStory's fault. Clearly, the signals they were getting for their sources indicated indictments of Libby and Rove, up to the last minute, and they wanted us to be prepared for that. They cannot be held responsible for what Rove's lawyer does, or how Fitzgerald responds or decisions he makes. And it is OKAY for news web sites to push their journalistic product. It is OKAY for them to want people to read the stories, and to want to sell ads. How else could they keep providing information, conduct investigations, pay for telephone, transportation, make a living?

It's an unfair criticism! And they likely will turn out to be right about a pending Rove indictment. They are not the only ones who thinks it's coming.

As for what may appear on their site about 9/11, I haven't read that yet, but, personally, I have a high tolerance for 9/11 theories, because what happened that day is so suspicious in so many ways. I'll even entertain wild theories about it, looking for clues to the truth. Maybe the "wild theory" will be turn out to be right. Who knows? My own shtick about it is very simple: Why wasn't our nation's capitol defended that day, when they had nearly an hour's notice? Why did the Air Force stand down? Why weren't normal NORAD procedures followed for off-course, out of communication aircraft--especially one headed for DC? When I review 9/11 theories, I am looking for the answer to that question. Because I think it is the key to the whole thing. We pay these people--our defense establishment-- billions of dollars every year to defend us. Why didn't they?

I think your criticisms of RawStory are vague and unfair, and I think that your failing to mention Rove's lawyer's last minute maneuvering--which Fitzgerald had to respond to, and which RawStory could not have known about--indicates prejudice.

35. I look to Raw Story for fresh news.
They always correct themselves when applicable and in a timely manner. Can't ask for more than that when you're in the business of serving up hot, juicy nouveau news.

And until we have a thorough investigation of 9/11, I say let the conspiracy theories abound.

55. Re: 911 story and tolerance.
I agree that 911 business is worrisome. However, when one looks at all the information with a more jaundiced eye (AF stand-down, NORAD procedures, and all that) and then considers other information about ChimpCo (Katrina response, etc.) one has to consider as the most probable truth being that ChimpCo is simply incompetent and that their 911 response was what it was because of that fact.

When one adds their ignoring of clear warnings, it only adds to that conclusion. They did not see it coming because their ideology did not allow them to look in that direction. Even when the clear warnings were in front of them, ChimpCo discounted it because they were total slaves to their ideology and to the partisan political machine which implements it.

Once one accepts this as the plausible scenerio one has to discount the wild, and huge, conspiracies as being not only implausible, but impossibly complex for such an incompetent regime. The inescapable fact is that 911 happened the way it did because ChimpCo did precisely nothing to mediate it. Whether this was deliberate or not is still subject to debate, however it is easier to accept that it was simple incompetence.

One wonders what would have transpired if the press had picked up on this in the days following the attack, and if there had been a responsible congress. It is likely that we would not be suffering under a second ChimpCo term.

63. NORAD should have escorted these planes - they are authorized to do that
without orders and it is necessary for our defense. THEY HAD ONE HOUR TO DO SO AND WERE IN THE AIR AND BESIDE A GOLFER'S PLANE THAT HAD GONE OFF COURSE WITHIN 8 MINUTES. NORAD has numerous examples of being in the air within seconds of planes going off course and escorting them. So why didn't they on 911? What happened to communications on 911? So I repeat Sibyl Edmonds' question, why did NORAD stand down on 911? Don't we have an airforce?

http://www.nswbc.org/
National Security Whistleblowers Coalition
Sibel Edmonds site http://www.JUSTACITIZEN.COM Please sign her petition to ungag her so we can learn the truth about 911. Her comments on fixing the price of gold are very interesting. Look up Ft. Knox, we went off the gold standard under Reagan/Bush and the Asian markets esp. Maylasia who are floating the dollar keep asking us to go back on the gold standard. Why don't we?

===Also note, that in Operation Northwoods, they specifically ited "civilian deaths" as a goal to ensure maximum outrage, and their plans also including SHOOTING DOWN civilian aircraft as well as crashing drone craft into US warships to incite a war. I don't know why they gloss over that in the article.

73. Prior to the mal-administration of the NeoCon Losers, the policy....
...of the United States was to allow NORAD to launch interceptors as soon as NORAD was contacted by an air traffic controller that an airliner had been hijacked.

Sometime prior to 911, the policy was changed so that approval to launch interceptors had to come from Rumsfeld. On the day of the attacks on 911 Rumsfeld apparently couldn't be found for at least 30 minutes. Turns out, that is roughly the same amount of time that the interceptors were delayed before being ordered into the air.

A question for which I've never gotten an answer is why were the interceptors launched from air bases so far from the scene of the action in New York and Washington, DC? Planes were launched from a base sount of Boston, MA, and near Newport News, VA...how did this happen when their were air bases MUCH closer to the scene?

Additionally, on the day of the attacks on 911, most of the interceptors on the east coast were engaged in drills to practice dealing with...you guessed it...hijacked airliners. That also created a fair amount of confusion, as you might have guessed.

78. But surely
standing down America's defenses to such an extent on and before 9/11 takes effort?

Letting things carry on as they were would have been the easy route but the neocons actively changed policies and ignored meetings and warnings for eight months. I don't see that as passive incompetence, it takes effort to repeatedly do the wrong thing.

3. Patrick Fitzgerald strikes me as a pretty sharp customer.
I just don't think he would indict anybody unless he felt he had a strong case.

And it doesn't surprise a lot of us that a strong case might be made against a certain Mr. Rove.

7. Not a flame on Raw Story but...
back during the Fitzmas (the first one -- we seem to be in a new one now, I hope) there were some people who seemed to believe that RS wasn't reliable. What's the deal on them?

Regardless, I hope Rove will be indicted. It's one more step in what I believe will ultimately end with a Cheney indictment.

13. From Kos on Raw Story story:
Fitz to move for Rove indictments...developing (none / 0)

Rawstory is "developing" this story; this makes perfect sense. See my diary last night. Raw Story is reporting that Special Prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald is planning to move toward indictment(s) of Karl Rove, top aide to President George W. Bush, in the CIA identity leak case aka Plamegate.

When Scooter Libby was indicted in October, the word was that Rove would also have been indicted at that time, but for a last second appeal by Rove's lawyer, Democrat Robert Luskin. The story being advanced by the Rove camp was apparently that Rove had forgotten about his contact with Matt Cooper until confronted in October 2004 with an email Rove had written to Steven Hadley after speaking with Cooper. Fitzgerald allowed Rove to attempt to recant his testimony at that time, but since the testimony was offered just after it became apparent that Matt Cooper was going to testify, the recantation would not be valid if it were done simply because Rove knew he would be found out. Luskin offered as evidence of Rove's innocent misstatement in February the idea that Rove may have known before this testimony that Cooper was alleging Rove was the leaker. Luskin apparently is trying to make the argument that Rove would not have lied when it was clear to him that Cooper had the goods on him. Therefore, according to Luskin's scenario, Rove was just a victim of a very bad memory.

Fitzgerald has now taken statements and testimony from Luskin, and from Time Reporter Viveca Novak (who told Luskin sometime in 2004 that Cooper was alleging Rove was the source of the Plame identity). It is apparent to Fitz, as to most others, that the "selective dementia" theory doesn't hold water, and therefore, it seems, Fitz is handling up on his bidness.

BOOYAH !!!

I wish he could be executed for treason, but an indictment would at least tie up this sleazy bastard for a while. I hope it happens.

37. I've known this all along, made a movie about it "Rove's War"
But I also created a way to enjoy this event, after a year of research making "Rove's War" my film at Takebackthemedia.com I KNEW Rove IS going down..

Now for the way to Celebrate:

Decorate YOUR FITZMAS TREE - an Interactive Animation..

MERRY FITZMAS! I wanted a Damn Fitzmas Tree ever since I heard the term invented RIGHT HERE, and NOW by god I have one, and you can too..

I have labored long and hard on this Interactive Animation (Flash - you may need the most recent flash plugin on your system - at least 6 I think, here's the Macromedia link for player/plugins: http://www.macromedia.com/downloads/#players ) - WHERE YOU can actually DECORATE YOUR OWN FITZMAS TREE, by dragging and dropping Ornaments and dropping them on the FITZMAS TREE - if an Ornament sticks to your "hand" it may be because of the slimy people encased within, just give it another mouse click on the tree to shake it off

There are two Flashes that interact with each other - one is the Fitzmas Tree itself, with a box FULL of decorations, the decorations being the Subjects of Indictments, Investigations, etc - something your Right Wing brother-in-law might be interested in knowing, lots of fun facts

If you click (click all over the page, lots of surprises on it) on the TITLE's of the Flashes you can go between the Tree itself, and another Flash that will load up with all the Decorations and an explanation of WHO they are, and WHAT they did.. for folks that don't know much about the Plame Outing they can get educated on the Ornaments and then click on back to the Tree and Decorate the Hell out of it

Here's two links, the first goes to the Fitzmas Tree itself, but like I said, you can click to the other Flash for more info, or a pal can get more info and Trim the Tree after.. Try this one First:

http://www.tbtmradio.com/flash/merryfitzmas.swf

or you can check out the Ornaments (but maybe miss some surprises where the Presents are) at This Link:

http://www.tbtmradio.com/flash/merryfitzmasornaments.swf

In case you're wondering what that building is in the background, it's the HAGUE, I thought it rather appropriate - and the guys in ORANGE, well, I think you'll recognize them

So ENJOY if you will, and do me a favor, keep this KICKED Please - a labor of love, but no sleep for about Three days either.. Pass it around to anyone you think might be interested, but Please also come back here and Let me Know what YOU think of this work, I scrambled brains doing this

And don't forget to open the presents under the FITZMAS TREE, I wrapped them special just for YOU..

46. Thanks!
Worked harder on that tree than cutting down and dragging one in the house :)

Might be the only tree we get this year if I don't get more donations for the "Rove's War" film, maybe when they Indict Rove people will want to know how it all happened and I've got a 2 DVD set with the definitive Chronology at Takebackthemedia.com

But I DO lift my Egg Nog to you! thanks, makes my heart warm.. hope Olbermann plays with it, sent it off to him too.. pass it around if you would :)

But you can tell people to CLICK on the Novak STAR to get there.. sneaky, eh?

38. raw story UPDATE
Fitzgerald to present more information to jury Wednesday
Jason Leopold

Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald will present additional evidence to a grand jury Wednesday morning in the CIA leak case that could result in an indictment being handed up against White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove, sources close to the investigation told RAW STORY.

Although the grand jury’s term expires in 18 months, Fitzgerald is expected to wrap up the case as it relates to Rove before the end of the year, the sources said.

Fitzgerald intends to present the grand jury with the sworn testimony from Rove’s attorney Robert Luskin, and Time magazine reporter Viveca Novak. The sources close to the case said Fitzgerald is still intent on seeking an indictment against Rove on at least one count of making false statements to FBI and Justice Department investigators when he was first interviewed in early October 2003 about his role in the leak.

Rove failed to tell investigators at the time that he had spoken about covert CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson with Time magazine reporter Matthew Cooper and conservative columnist Robert Novak, who first published her name and CIA status in a July 14, 2003 column. Rove had been a source for both journalists. Cooper and Novak later cooperated in the case. Luskin said Rove had forgotten about the conversation.

Eleventh-hour testimony from reporter Viveca Novak—who Rove’s attorney Robert Luskin fingered as a crucial witness in keeping his client out of court—does not appear to have been helpful to Rove in dodging an indictment, the sources said.

47. When? Who (besides Rove)?
Edited on Wed Dec-14-05 08:48 AM by DemReadingDU
A week ago, Fitzgerald briefed the second grand jury hearing evidence in the leak case for more than three hours. During that time, he brought them up to speed on the latest developments involving Rove and at least one other White House official, the sources said. The attorneys refused to identify the second person.

Should we look for a Media Advisory to be announced on Fitzgerald's website of the impending indictment?

53. Yeah I made the URL to the film as a sort of "easter egg"
so folks poking around the tree will find the link (ITS THE NOVAK STAR :) )and click on that.. didn't want to have an AD popping up in people's faces when they want to enjoy the Fitzmas Tree, seemed sort of tacky, tho some sites like to bombard you with ads.. I avoid them like the monkey avoiding the boxing glove ads :)

I may upload another version where it's a teensy more obvious as it's a good deal..

Thanks for mentioning that, appreciated.. be on it's way sooooon..

64. The creator of this group sent an email to Fitz and I don't remember if he
sent me a copy through my email or if he posted the email on his site:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/the_international_free_speech_zone/

I've never been able to get macromedia to work for me though have downloaded it at least twice.

I think I got into trouble with Javascript one of the times so gave up.

http://www.IdleWorm.com This guy has a very strongly worded website and cartoons and animations. The last I can't watch on my PC because macromedia doesn't work. I will let others know about your Christmas tree and I have been informing people on AOL messageboard about your Rove information site and DVD and quoting the Secret Agent Plame song.

It is a good idea to let people who are questioning know about truthsites on neutral boards like AOL and Yahoo.

79. Thanks!
I appreciate all the help I can getting the word out on this film - firedoglake has linked it (actually my Merry Fitzmas Tree Flash), with a link in the Review on my film to the film itself, so that's cool.. I think that was where Joseph Wilson must have seen the link to my film, and actually graciously donated for a Copy of "Rove's War"! I am SO PUMPED.. this is like the Beatles asking for one of your T-shirts you designed to worship them :)

and I DO worship Mr Wilson and his Wife, they just MAY be the ones to bring this evil cabal DOWN, along with wonderful people like Congressman Conyers, another hero..

Thanks for the links, I'll check them out!
