Yep, government forced Pentecostal Christianity and denunciation of Catholicism, brought to you by our "Faith Based Initiatives":

1. Well that's just dumb
The Catholic church has more money than the corporate cronies... this could get messy.

2. They've been bought off
because if Alito is confirmed, they'll have 5 seats on the USSC, and I'm talking true believer seats.

4. Most Christian Right religous hate Catholics
During the last prez election I heard this a number of times from folks who didn't know I was Catholic - 'I wouldn't vote for Kerry because he is Catholic' My response was usually - 'I will because I am' or 'That's is why I wouldn't vote for Bush - because he is not' - you should have seen the looks on their faces :) I still do not understand why some many Catholics vote for right wingers when they hate them. There is a long history of right wingers hating Catholics in America, especially during the haydays of immigration. During the 1920's the KKK actively attacked and even lynched Catholics, & now they support the same idiots.

6. I just love how they refuse to call us "Christians"
Edited on Tue Dec-06-05 03:42 PM by YOY
Oh, we're "Christians" all right. We're just not PROTESTANTS...neither are Eastern Orthodox Christians. Notice the restrain we show when dealing with fundies: instead of beating the tar out of them like we should we patiently hear their idiotic opinions spoonfed to them by some minister who thinks the pope is the debil....that's downright Christian of us, isn't it?

Gawd, I hate dipshit fundies.

13. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! That was a good one, SharonAnn!
Some people just have to hate some people--anyone will do. Catholics. Blacks. Jews. Gays. Immigrants. Protestants. Girls with icky hair. The hatred flavor of the month. And some politicians will always aim at the lowest, stupidest, "gut level" prejudices against whatever they perceive as the latest "scapegoat," or will manufacture one if necessary ("communists," gooks, ragheads, liberals).

I have always felt it to be the most vile quality in a politician, that they would stoop to stirring up racial hatred, because racism against blacks was the most visible and obnoxious hatred when I was young. (It was not long after hatred of Catholics was big, however--I remember the filthy pamphlets that circulated in rightwing circles during JFK's campaign for president in 1960.)

When Daddy Bush permitted the "Willie Horton" ad (a blatantly racist ad) against Dukakus in the presidential campaign in the late 1980s, I was profoundly offended, and put off him forever. Nothing is so low, in my opinion.

So, don't expect hatred to be rational. It comes from some unlighted place in the human soul, where foul things dwell, and can aim--or be directed by powermongers--at anyone, at any time, for any reason. In the religious wars in Europe among Christian factions--something that our Founders designed our government to prevent here--the most despicable deeds were done in the name of one "purer" faction of this religion, against the imagined "evil" of the other faction, while there was hardly a hair's difference between them, to any rational person. Torture, death--because you did or didn't say Mass in church, or recite the right prayers.

I pray to Saint Jefferson and Saint Madison to spare of us any such horror in the land of the free and the home of the brave, and to help us heal this part of the human soul before it's too late. The torture of Islamics in the name of a Christian God and our inability to stop this outrage are very worrisome.

Give the American people transparent elections, though, and I think we will put it right.

9. I agree
Come from a very Catholic family and they mostly voted Bush. I laughed at them for not knowing the history of religious intolerence against their own religion by the very people they're voting for. I've most of them hadn't lost their jobs since the last election I'd rub it in. But since they did I feel God can be very swift sometimes.

8. The only reason that Fartwell and Robem$ome ever went after abortion
was to try and make the Catholics unwitting allies.

After they got rid of everybody else, they'd go after the Catholics and the Mormons.

10. worked like a charm...
The Catholic RWers follow along...while the creepy fundies snicker and stab them in the back. Idiotic to say the least. If the 'pubs never found the excuse for support that is abortion then they would have never gotten the support...if. Most Catholics really don't know just what they're supporting. Some actually do.

The one RW Catholic friend claimed that "the end justifies the means." I think that's the same disturbingly Machevelian excuse Lucretia Borgia used, no?

12. I do believe you are right...either him or Alfonso or Rodrigo
Then again the whole history that was the Borgia could have all been political slander of the time...

but that's nothing to do with the issue at hand.
