'St. Pete Times' Reacts to Being On Bill O'Reilly's 'Enemies List'

NEW YORK How do the St. Petersburg Times and New York Daily News feel about being featured on an "enemies list" that columnist/TV host Bill O'Reilly unveiled Tuesday?

"We reject Mr. O'Reilly's characterizations of our journalism but appreciate that he reads us regularly," Times Executive Editor Neil Brown said wryly, when reached Wednesday by E&P.

Brown does not think the Times will lose subscribers and advertisers because of the O'Reilly list: "People make up their own minds."

A Daily News spokesperson said Wednesday that the paper would have "no comment."

Why was the Times on O'Reilly's short three-name list (which also included MSNBC)? "He seems to have disliked our work for some time," replied Brown. He declined to say what specific work O'Reilly disliked, but several possible examples came up in a Google search.

Faux News viewers let someone else make their opinion for them.

really losing it. He compared MoveOn to the Nazi party or some such nonsense, he's terrified that Christmas is under attack. He regularly smears the ACLU. Media Matters reprints him word for word and he calls it slander. The guy's a whack job.

Can't we just turn off our tv's and spend more time researching and posting more important news items for each other here at DU? Is it even worth writing him to point out what a loon he is?

just thinking out loud a bit here...

after reading Al Franken's book i can't stomach the lies--and there are good alternatives: Democracy Now, Rachel Maddow, etc.....

10. Worth it, and even necessary to respond to hate speech
where ever it comes from. Remember the repetition dynamic. If you let it go and let it go, pretty soon, it's a fact and running your government.

He's a cockroach but there is a more important principle behind it -- over and above, say, the gratification of hearing the bug squish. :)

9. i think you're right
O'Leilly used to have this routine where he pretended he wasn't a wingnut -- no one really believed him but he like to go through the motions of characterizing himself as fair and balanced, no spin and all that crap. Now, like chimpy, he's decided that all he has left is his "base" so he's going to play to them. He's sounding more and more Coulterish all the time. He's peaked and he knows it.

11. A major endorsement for the St Pete Times

O'Louffa just sold a lot of subscriptions to the St Pete Times. They already had a reputation as leaning slightly to the left so I'm sure they didn't have a lot of RW subscribers they would have to worry about losing. If anything, Felafelhead put the word out to more libs to sign up. Way to go, shithead.

12. MSNBC had a great way of addressing it
via Mr. Olbermann, a gold, silver, and bronze sweep for the three nominees for today's worst person in the world!
