Good News: O'Reilly Factor Ratings Are Dropping

I just updated my cable news ratings web page and I noticed something, the factor ratings have dropped 2 months in a row since the 3rd quarter ratings report. So despite what O'Reilly is telling people about how great his ratings are, he is losing viewers every month.

This is the 3rd quarter O'Reilly Factor rating from 6-27-05 to 9-25-05

Rating - 2.5
Total Viewers - 2,820,000

www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/original/q305ranker.pdf

This is the average O'Reilly Factor rating for October 2005

Rating - 2.3
Total Viewers - 2,600,000

www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/original/oct05ranker.pdf

This is the average O'Reilly Factor rating for November 2005

Rating - 2.2
Total Viewers - 2,500,000

2. No wonder he's been spewing so much B.S. lately...
He's trying to do anything to draw attention to himself. He's turning into a male version of Ann Coulter (I know, I know. We're not sure that she's not a man.).

5. That is good news indeed
he sure is getting alot of attention outside of his show (attacking SanFran and this pathetic Christmas stuff)As an example, I dont watch TV at all and I hear about his antics

I wish everyone would just ignore him and he'd shut up, but it seems like the fewer viewers he gets the more outrageous he'll be

12. Poor Bill
Well, actually, he's stinking rich, but he's finding out (just like Morton Downey and so many others before him) that people slowly tune out the gibbering madman.

If history in these matters is any indicator, the finale should be quite the crack-up.

14. That's Still More than CNN & MSGOP Combined
CNN's collapse continues...Jon Klein is as big a disaster as his predecessors as that network continues down the road of being a 24/7 parody of itself. CNN's compromised it's journalism by hiring dozens of predominately right wing political hacks as "analyists" and trying to play Faux Lite. It not only didn't attract Faux viewers and other nuckle-draggers...but it chased away a lot of its existing viewers as well.

Surely part of the latest O'Reilly flare up is to pump up his numbers. November is a sweeps month and the numbers now generate what types of revenue Faux will be making for a good portion of next year.

Hate them as you will, but Faux and Roger Ailes have found a way not only to stay on top but keep embarassing its competition. Personally, I can't see it, as I've always found the Faux presentation very cheesy...but it's been working. Support him or hate him, O'Reilly's got a lot of eyes and ears in his direction right now and he's trying to milk it for all its worth. Play along and he profits.

20. I am--or was one-- until I thought "I dont need this verbal abuse"
its one thing to want to know all sides of a story-- dont you want to know what the other side, or sides, are saying/thinking? Another thing entirely to subject ones self to relentless abuse. I think a lot of people are getting fed up with this uncivilized nasty namecalling kind of politics... further evidence- "commander in chief" which portrays a dignified principled woman as president (independent party!) is the no. 1 new drama on TV!

23. Oldest Trick In The Book...
The axiom was "say good, say bad, just say"...and this surely applies to O'Reilly.

I don't condemn DU'ers who want to watch Faux...it's always good to know what the other side is saying so you can prepare yourself for the talking points...but watching doesn't mean patronizing.

Thanks to fine folks like Liveoak at Canofun and Crooks & Liars, I get everything I need from Faux and then pick up the rest from the posts here and on other sites...then I go to MMFA and get their take on things. I've encouraged several others to do the same and in that context you can see Faux exposed for the propaganda machine that it is...but so be it. They said this was their intention from the start...many here are pissed cause they were able to do it.

(BTW...cheers from another Sox fan...great to have Pauly back!)

Cheers...

24. Yes, but not all of it
Sadly some DUers spend all day every day listening to hate radio and watching Cabal "News". and I DO think that watcjing is patronizing. As you say, the "op research" is available from crooksandliars, mediamatters, and buzzflash. There is no need for 50 posts per day here quoting Limpballs, Hannity, Andy Coulter, O'Really, Tweety, Malkin, Scarborough, Buchanan, Weiner, BowTie, Novakula, Leslie, etc. The people who watch/listen to 12 hrs per day of this stuff need to do some soul-searching.

Yes, Paulie's back. Let's stay healthy and give it another run next summer. Comcast Sports Chicago will b erunning all 11 playoff wins starting this weekend. Get your VCR ready.

25. I Kinda Like The Hate Radio Posts
Those save me a lot of agony...and I salute those with the intestinal fortitude to listen to that tripe. As long as these people are aware of not filling out ratings books and deliberately patronizing program or station advertisers, there's little harm in tuning into that crap. If you have cable, you're paying for it anyway...might as well see what going on.

I'm a self admitted news/talk junkie...between having something always rolling on the tube 24/7, i'm scanning the dial during the day sampling a lot of talk radio...then I come here and verify or read the comments and see what other people are seeing/hearing.

Actually, I'm one that gets tired of the "turn it off" posts anytime someone bitches about a program. Yes, it's easy to turn off anything you don't want to see or hear...it takes cajones to look at the other side...and helps to get an insight into that parallel universe they live in.

I recorded all the games as they happened...I'm still in disbelief...LOL. I'm ready for Soxfest...looks like next summer could be another fun one.

Cheers...

:hi:

27. For The Record.......
Edited on Thu Dec-01-05 02:33 PM by stewert

I watch ONE show on the FOX news network, the O'Reilly Factor. And the ONLY reason I watch it at all is I own the website. If I did not own oreilly-sucks.com I would NOT watch one second of the O'Reilly Factor. I do not listen the the Radio Factor, we do not get it here in Peoria, and even if we did I would not listen to it.

I post about things he says to keep people who can not stand to watch him informed. And the way I see it, how can you fight your enemy if you dont know what they are doing, answer that one.

And I doubt very much any DUers spend all day watching FOX, I do not know anyone who can take it for more than a few minutes.

16. His radio show is falling apart
Just got dropped in Denver.

His Washington DC affiliate is supposedly going to drop him.

He just lost Stillwater, MN (St. Paul area), as they changed formats.

Many of his affiliates delay his show to nights.

His radio numbers have been dropping for quite a while and his TV numbers are sliding.

I believe all of this nonsense he is spewing is a desperate attempt to attract attention.

Desperate attempt to generate interest in his lame shows.

But like any PR ploy, it works less well every time it is used.
And after 5 years of "The B*shCabal™ Show",
the public has some severe 'Wingnut Fatigue'.

It's OVER, Billy-boy. All downhill from here.

Actually, in the November 2005 listing, it looks like Mr. Olbermann has the highest rated program on MSNBC. I know that may be damning it with faint praise, but it's a start.

31. This Is Preposterous, Isn't It?
If a network news show or a sitcom had 2.5 million viewers, it would be pulled and new people would be on TV in about 10 minutes. Yet, this paltry viewership is considered high and this guy gets to feed his self-importance.

32. Maybe people are finally seeing him as the whackjob he is
I've only seen him on TV a couple of times and have heard Franken play clips of him on AAR and I always find myself stunned that anyone would believe the pure, unadulterated bullshit that comes out of O'Reilly's mouth. He also follows the standard RW procedure when someone calls him on it, too--he denies he ever said it! Newsflash, dumbass: your show is being recorded and people have a record of what you say.

Two others I can't stand are Hannity and Ingraham. I've caught them (briefly) on the radio while driving to visit my parents in Arkansas and I can't believe how full of shit they are, and Ingraham has the added bonus of hatemongering toward liberals. FWIW, I'm as stunned by their listeners as I am by them as hosts--some of the Resmuglicans who call in (at least the ones I've heard) are idiots!

35. I used to watch him, but I can't anymore
When I tune in, it takes usually about 3 minutes before I get too upset to watch him.

Once upon a time (maybe 3 years ago), he didn't seem all that bad to me. I didn't always agree with him, but he didn't piss me off all that much. I'm not sure if he got worse or if its that I woke up or both (I think its both).
