WASHINGTON - Lest we all forget that Rep. Jean Schmidt, R-Miami Township, has an opponent in next year's re-election campaign, Democrat Jim Parker of Waverly e-mailed folks at The Enquirer to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. So what does Parker, 37, a health care administrator, think about Schmidt telling Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., a decorated Marine, that "cowards cut and run, Marines never do"?

Parker posted his response to Schmidt's comments on an Ohio politics blog, which can be linked to through Parker's own blog: www.jimparker4ad.blogspot.com.

"Many years ago, when I grew up in a small town in southwestern Pennsylvania, Jack Murtha was my congressman. I voted for Jack Murtha. Jean Schmidt, you're no Jack Murtha," Parker wrote.

"This man took at least two bullets for his country and he is the last person that anybody would ever think about calling a coward - except Jean Schmidt. I cannot tell you how proud it makes me feel to be the only Democrat running against Jean Schmidt at a moment like this."

the Republicans are kicking themselves for ever bringing that fake resolution to the floor. Talk about a backlash! I've seen that Schmidt clip over & over again - and all it does is bring up Murtha's distinguished war record, his opposition to the Iraq War, and the screeching attack mode of Republicans. Lovely. Jean Schmidt might've done more to help the Democrats in her short career than even Micheal Moore. She's the new face of the Republican party.
