Pope Bennie XVI...leading the church into further irrelevency...
<snip>
Gland Inquisitor
Pope Benedict's antigay tendencies.
By William Saletan
Posted Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at 12:46 AM ET

The Vatican's new policy on gay priests has been leaked. Officially, it proposes the incorrigibility of deeply rooted gay tendencies. Unofficially, it exposes the deeply rooted, incorrigible antigay tendencies of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, aka Pope Benedict XVI.

For decades, while moderate clerics defended celibate gay priests, Ratzinger pressed for a purge of homosexuality not merely as an act or a lifestyle but as an orientation. Now he's in charge, and he's got ambitions beyond the church. He wants to cleanse us all, inside and out.

<snip>

<snip>

Notice two things. First, deep-rooted "tendencies" are now independent and automatic grounds for dismissal, regardless of whether you "practice" homosexuality or "support" gay culture (whatever that is). Second, even if these tendencies are merely a "situation" in which you "find yourself," they "gravely obstruct" you from relating properly to men and women. Through no fault of your own, you're doomed. The Catechism's paths to perfection—self-mastery, chastity, prayer, and grace—no longer suffice. The church won't settle for your self-restraint, even with God's help.

I don't even know what to say about this...it is so cruel and childish I can just hope people see this guy for who he is and either work to reform the church, or move to a more inclusive faith!

1. Let's see...men who want to marry and have families are not welcome.
Men who practice or support homosexuality are not welcome. Women are not welcome. What in the world does that leave you with? Not much.

3. Didn't Hitler purge his army and cabinet of
homosexuals after he took control of Germany, Seems the anti nazi nazi isn't so far removed from his unwanted leader as he wants the faithful to think he is. Yeah right, he was an unwilling nazi in his youth.

9. I'm not wild about this guy
because of his conversative stance but I have to jump in and defend him on one issue, because it is something I know about.

My husband is from Germany. If you grew up under Hitler, when you turned a certain age, you joined Hitler youth and you went to Hitler youth camps and you wore a brown shirt. End of story. Both my inlaws were in Hitler youth and my father in law was a Jew! (hiding his ethnicity)

Don't hold THAT against him. Don't insult all Germans by calling him The Nazi Pope. He is just a German.

Rip him apart on his edicts..that gives us plenty of opportunity. He is very accommodating in his "paper trail."

14. The NAZI pope is what he is and always will be.
Sorry, but he doesn't get a pass from me.

He wants me dead, as a gay man. He hates me, as a gay man.

No, he will not get a pass from me.

And, no, not "everybody" automatically became a Hitler Youth.

I don't intend to insult all Germans, just the Nazi's and THIS particular German Nazi.

Sorry, you can go pound sand for all I care about your protestations.

17. Well I'll pound the sand in just a bit
but I am wondering if you can back up your statement that not "everybody" automatically became a Hitler Youth. Links? Sites?

According to my reading on this topic and also the testimony of my husband's family, you had no choice. You could put it off through some sort of deferment if you had to work in the fields or in a factory, but in general you went. Period.

My mother in law was at Hitler Youth Camp the night her town was bombed extensively, destroying most of it. She saw it from the hill side camp and she walked 50 miles home to find it gone and half her family dead.

She was not a Nazi. My father in law killed in the name of the Nazi party. But he was not a Nazi. Indeed, he was a Jew. He was a German citizen who had a choice: serve of be shot. He chose life. His.

My point to you (but you are too angry to see it) is that you weaken your argument against this man, particularly with Catholics (whom one might think would be the logical folks to argue with regarding this issue) if you throw the red herring of his being a "Nazi" into the mix.

Now about pounding sand...I don't have any. And I am sorry you don't respect my prostestations because I do respect yours. And there's the difference between us, no?

19. Actually the Hitler youth group was made up of volunteer youths,
it was a catch 22 though. If you joined you got the full benefits from the government along with an education. If you refused you pretty much were an out cast until you were old enough to be forced into the German army. The German army you had no choice about joining, you either joined or were shot. Many German youths refused to join Hitlers youths and suffered for that choice, though they had no regrets about making their decision. A side note to this is, if you tried to claim you were to disabled to join Hitlers army, you were either shot or put into one of the work camps along with the jews. Hitler had very little use for disabled folk.

21. Thanks for clearing that up
I guess it would take a very exceptional person not to join. My in laws weren't, though they are good folks.

Personally, I would have gone with the sheeple. I have never been one for taking stands in ditches and stuff. (but I sure admire folks who do)

15. Agreed. He didn't actually volunteer for Hitler youth
But... having been exposed to it, the core propaganda elements seem to have made an indelible impression. The extreme homophobic sentiment has certainly not been discarded by this pope.

4. There is a war behind the scenes
I think a lot of Cardinals are having second thoughts about this election. BXVI is much more of a nut than they realized and his clumsy attempts to make the Church relevent are actually making it more irrelevent with every passing day. You'll notice BXVI pushes anti-gay edicts and he pushes intelligent design, but behind the scenes, others in the Catholic heirarchy say, "NO!" There is a war being waged that we can't see, and unfortunately since one side used to run the inquisition, it may not be resolved amicably.

11. The Pope doesn't support "intelligent design"
Edited on Tue Nov-29-05 11:41 AM by nickinSTL
at least, not the pseudo-scientific "intelligent design" crap in the US right-wing sense.

According to Catholic Online:

The Vatican's chief astronomer, weighing into a heated U.S. debate, said Nov. 18 that "intelligent design" isn't science and doesn't belong in science classrooms, according to the ANSA news agency here.

http://www.catholic.org/international/international_story.php?id=17691

While I'm sure that the Pope and the RCC support the idea of intelligent design in the sense that they believe in God as the source of creation, they officially do NOT support the right-wing pseudo-science of "intelligent design".

the churches plan is to keep the bigots in the industrialized world while continuing to expand in the third world. Basically they don't want people like you.

10. I suppose he spends his days cutting pink triangles out of felt
for future placement on camp uniforms. All Nazis are right-wing hate-filled bigots, but not all right-wing hate-filled bigots are Nazis.

To characterize them as Nazi-like...in that they do not advocate violence...however

I see that it is not above the church to compare stem-cell advocates to Nazis

12. Didn't the cardinals have a secret meeting with GW

before they select "His Choice?"

I thought I read that at DU or in the newspaper.

I recall that when they were ready to make the dramatic announcement I was not shocked at all.

IMO, he was hand picked by the bushco crowd.

16. This guy is nuts!!!
After reading the edicts of old Benny, I'm convinced this guy is a few bratwursts shy of a cookout!!

What I find really strange is reference to those who support "Gay Culture". WTF does that mean?? Catholics can't watch "Will and Grace" anymore? Catholics can't go to Elton John concerts? is all of South Beach now a Catholic-free zone?? (Somewhere, I hear a cuckoo clock going off :silly: )

It's exactly because of people like Benny that I left the Catholic Church for a more inclusive, less hate-driven faith.

I can see the Help Wanted sign for Catholic Priests:

Wanted: men for lifetime employment. Opportunities for travel and advancement, room and board provided. Should enjoy working with children. Women, gays, married men, divorced men, homosexuals, supporters of gay culture, and those with homosexual tendencies need not apply.

I have been known to say "Fabulous!". I have really LOUD Aloha shirts, too.

Are THOSE the "tendencies" Eggs Benedict is referring to?
