if you have one in your area.

Here's a link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0037884/combined

The film won four Oscars, and quite a bunch of other nominations and awards.

By the way, although I remember John Lennon, of course, I don't know what your reference was to his "lost year". Did he drink? If so, I never knew that.

Peace -- and happy holidays. Celebrate carefully and wonderfully.

PS Lennon's Lost Weekend:

Separated from Yoko, in October 1973 John and May took off to Los Angeles to embark on what John called his 'Lost Weekend' - eighteen months of wild partying in the company of Keith Moon, Ringo Starr, Klaus Voormann and Harry Nilsson.

very-anti enlightenment, hateful about education, hateful about scientific research and theory, hateful about secular separation of church and state....they are just backward and ignorant and want to keep all of America in the dark, so to speak. Gawd, this gets me so worked up. I am so disdainful of this group of hacks.

I think the real turning point was on Nov. 22, 1963, the day JFK was killed in front of his wife and his nation. The course of American history was changed forever.

30. beginning of end of U.S. status of #1 super power !
With Jaapan set to become the #1 seller of auto's ,not only in the world ,even in our own country . With many of our allies no longer trusting our intelligence as accurate or truthful ,we will be weakened as our ability to persuade other countries to follow our lead ends ,and smaller democracy's form their own coalitions ,excluding us from process. Its so sad because when President Clinton was running things we where the model of economic sucess ,other countries looked up to ,now we are getting F's at all levels ,just as smirk did in his school days ,he is failing the test and bringing my country with him. Lets get this loser out now while we still have a reputation to salvage ,and perhaps with a intelligent leader replacing bush ,we can regain our #1 super power status , its not to late yet ,however each day we slip further and further away from the model of democracy that other countries look up to ! I personaly dont care about being #1 super power ,I care more about being #1 on human rights #1 on caring for the elderly and poor ,and #1 on being a truely compassionate country ,that quickly responds to those in need with food and medicial needs ,not weapons and bombs ! We need a leader who's priorities are not all screwed up ,like our current phony in office ,who does not have any plan for the future ,only a plan for the present of staying the course of this downward trend of our country .GET HIM OUT ASAP , this will be my Thankgiving wish ,freedom from the hold of this extreme right, White House that has highjacked our country and is raping it of all of its assets ,all the time telling us one lie after another ,wake up Americans B/4 its to late !

112. Bush is the Half-mast President, who presided over
The Half-mast Era. This occurred to me several months ago when I realized I've never seen as many American flags at half mast as during the past 4 years, starting with 9/11. Not just for large scale events like Katrina either -- wherever I drive I'm bound to see at least one flag at half mast. The only explanation I can think of being that someone in the associated business or residence probably lost someone in Iraq. The flag at half mast is the ultimate symbol for Bush's reign.

They are traitors, all.

Lastly, if that's President Kennedy in the back: Yes, he belongs. He did all he could to keep America at peace, improve the lives of ALL Americans, and make the world a better place. Imagine how much better the world would be if he'd have had more than 1,000 days in office.

Eve Of Destruction
By Barry McGuire, 1965

The eastern world it is explodin',
violence flarin', bullets loadin',
you're old enough to kill but not for votin',
you don't believe in war, what's that gun you're totin',
and even the Jordan river has bodies floatin',
but you tell me over and over and over again my friend,
ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Don't you understand, what I'm trying to say?
Can't you see the fear that I'm feeling today?
If the button is pushed, there's no running away,
There'll be noone to save with the world in a grave,
take a look around you, boy, it's bound to scare you, boy,
but you tell me over and over and over again my friend,
ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Yeah, my blood's so mad, feels like coagulatin',
I'm sittin' here, just contemplatin',
I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation,
handful of Senators don't pass legislation,
and marches alone can't bring integration,
when human respect is disintegratin',
this whole crazy world is just too frustratin',
and you tell me over and over and over again my friend,
ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Think of all the hate there is in Red China!
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama!
Ah, you may leave here, for four days in space,
but when your return, it's the same old place,
the poundin' of the drums, the pride and disgrace,
you can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace,
hate your next-door-neighbour, but don't forget to say grace,
and you tell me over and over and over and over again my friend,
ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

The more things change....

144. Not Camelot. Not Shangri-La.
Camelot: A place or time of idealized beauty, peacefulness, and enlightenment.

Shangri-La: An imaginary remote paradise on earth; utopia.

http://education.yahoo.com/reference/dictionary

The Bush years have produced anything but Camelot or Shangri-La. The Bush years will go down as one of the worst, if not theeee worst, periods in America history.

145. Chapter 41 - Constitutional crisis and the end of empire
The period 2000-2008 is well remembered for the avoidable tragedy of the
collapse of the american empire. Keep in mind, that the empire was not
formall disassembled for another 25 years, but as historians, we're
interested in absorbing from this period how an empire can be destroyed,
when it could not be defeated by any external aggressor. Recall the
lessons of chapter 40, "Omens of empire collapse in the 1990's", where we study
unfettered neoliberalism that lead to the period of the bush depression,
the wars, and a multipolar world.

When the empire ended is debatable by some historians. A school holds
that the republic ended on the day the supreme court overruled the 2000
election and installed an incompetent autocrat, others say that the real
change occurred about 2003 when the US started using aggressive war and
torture as part of its society, and the global public opinion lash back
against american soft power that ended the voluntary cooperation that
held together post ww2 alliances.

180. "Our Long National Nightmare"
"Our Long National Nightmare"

Inspired by Gerald Ford...one of the less repugnant Republicans...who said after Nixon resigned "My fellow Americans, our long national nightmare is over."

185. "Wonderland"
Because I felt like I stepped through the looking glass when the SCOTUS handed Bush the presidency when votes had not yet been counted, and we've been stuck in bizarro world ever since.

The corporate media's slavish devotion to Bush only makes it that much more surreal every time I turn on the TV. It's like they are seeing a different administration than I am, one where the president is folksy, amicable and deeply religious.

Why is it that he just seems ignorant, mean and cynical to me?
