Pray for a warm winter
We haven't seen the full impact of Katrina yet. We got our last emergency shipment 2mb/day from the EU last week. It doesn't seem like gas prices should be going down...the gas prices must be
artificially manipulated...

Mineral Management Services Shut-in Report
Evacuation and Production Shut-in Statistics Report
as of Monday, November 21, 2005

These evacuations are equivalent to 16.97% of 819 manned platforms and 0.75% of 134 rigs currently operating in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM).

Today’s shut-in oil production is 633,064 BOPD. This shut-in oil production is equivalent to 42.20% of the daily oil production in the GOM, which is currently approximately 1.5 million BOPD.

Today’s shut-in gas production is 3.269 BCFPD. This shut-in gas production is equivalent to 32.69% of the daily gas production in the GOM, which is currently approximately 10 BCFPD.

The cumulative shut-in oil production for the period 8/26/05-11/21/05 is 90,494,285 bbls, which is equivalent to 16.529% of the yearly production of oil in the GOM (approximately 547.5 million barrels).

The cumulative shut-in gas production 8/26/05-11/21/05 is 463.863 BCF, which is equivalent to 12.798% of the yearly production of gas in the GOM (approximately 3.65 TCF).

1. Not even a warm winter will help
Either the supplies will come through, or we'll face some major pain this winter.

The difference in warm and cold winters is not very much, averaged across the economy. Local differences can be big, and they can be damped by astute planning and disaster management. Of course, the word "astute" should never be placed next to "planning and disaster management" when it comes to Team Bush.

So if there's a big shortfall in supply, prices will explode and people will shiver. Some people will freeze.

The good news is that right after an official death count is released, impeachment proceedings will begin.

Once again, we are all hostage not to the eeevil A-Rabb oil sheiks, but to a capricious and uncaring "market". So much for The Average Man's hard work and thrift.

4. We're having a big increase in bicyclists here
It was down to 25 degrees last night but they are hanging in there.

7. I guess we aren't "folks in the heartland" here.
But we've conserved for quite some time, including working from home.

I also remember Jimmy Carter addressing the nation in a sweater, telling us to dress warmly and turn down the thermostat.

And Al Gore, speaking eloquently on the need to conserve fuel and develop alternate sources of energy.

And Californians can tell you all about blackouts.

The thing is, fuel costs also contribute to higher prices in everything, including food -- and that hurts people most who can least afford it.

8. That's what I worry about
people freezing to death this winter-- Having to choose between heat and food. It could be really bad for a lot of people this winter. Worse still, if we don't have constant availablity of gasoline/natural gas(at some/any price) things could get even uglier.

6. People should do what they can to conserve.
I'm wearing my sweater as I type and my indoor temp is 62degF. We here in SW Michigan are expecting significant lake effect snow this week as well as some frigid weather. I just hope its not a portent of things to come this winter.

I keep track of fuel prices at the following site: heating oil or propane

http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/oog/info/hopu/hopu.asp

I remember the scramble many school districts went though to meet the cost of fuel for schoolbuses, I just hope they have plans made to deal with very high heating costs.

9. Not a chance
Thanks to Global Warming, it's going to be a long cold winter, full of severe storms and record amount of deaths from the flu. Mark my words.

That's why the Bushies have no intention of stopping Global Warming. The more the earth warms, the colder it's going to get, and the more money he and all his oil buddies will make, and the more people who die of the flu, the more the pharmaceutical companies make.

Just follow the money.
