I'm not upset because the real Murtha Resolution won!
Republicans felt the heat big time. Yesterday Murtha calls for a pullout. Today so does the Army. It's a miracle I guess, and a total coincidence no doubt (sarcasm).

The latest "traitor" -- the U.S. commander in Iraq, General Casey:

The top U.S. commander in Iraq has submitted a plan to the Pentagon for withdrawing troops in Iraq, according to a senior defense official.

Gen. George Casey submitted the plan to Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. It includes numerous options and recommends that brigades -- usually made up of about 2,000 soldiers each -- begin pulling out of Iraq early next year.

The proposal comes as tension grows in both Washington and Baghdad following a call by a senior House Democrat to bring U.S. troops home and the deaths of scores of people by suicide bombers in two Iraqi cities.

5. I was speaking figuratively
It forced the Admin to at least pretend that it is going to begin pullouts next year, though I will believe it when I see it.

6. The resolution was about getting a debate
a debate they never wanted to have... trust me Hastert is probably going to realize this and kick himself for allowing it

8. Agreed.
And I believe the debate is just beginning. The cat is out of the bag, so to speak.

2. I heard about that!!
I think I heard it on Anderson Cooper's show.

But they also added that Rumsfeld hasn't accepted the proposal yet........

4. Do you think Murtha would have said what he did if he didn't have
"off the record" approval from some important military people.

12. Absolutely!!! I concur!!
You and I seem to have a "big picture" view that a lot of DUers seem to lack.

It's extremely obvious that Murtha and the Murtha resolution scared the crap out of the reupgs so they resorted to high theatrics and wastes of words.

There's a whole bunch of activity and negotiating going on (as evidenced, in part, by your linked story) to get the troops out, but for the repugs now it's all about hard choices--either choosing to save *'s face, saving their own face, or eating some crow, being honest and voting with the Dems for a clear timetable and strategy for withdrawal.
