Web Site to Blend Journalism With Blogs
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051115/ap_on_hi_te/online_media

NEW YORK - A media Web site scheduled to debut Wednesday will seek to blend traditional journalism with the freeform commentary developed through the emerging Web format known as blogs.

Some 70 Web journalists, including Instapundit's Glenn Reynolds and David Corn, Washington editor of the Nation magazine, have agreed to participate in OSM — short for Open Source Media.

OSM will link to individual blog postings and highlight the best contributions, chosen by OSM editors, in a special section. Bloggers will be paid undisclosed sums based on traffic they generate.

The ad-supported OSM site will also carry news feeds from Newstex, which in turn receives stories from The Associated Press, Knight-Ridder/Tribune News Service and other traditional media organizations.

3. Just another 'fair and balanced' blog infested with freepers
Edited on Tue Nov-15-05 07:03 PM by Fighting Irish
The site is run by wingnuts. Among them is a particularly loathesome character named Charles Johnson. He runs a vile neocon blog called Little Green Footballs. Many of the other names thrown into the mix are conservatives (Instapundit, et. al.). They boast about how RW bloggers brought down Dan Rather last year.

I think I'll pass on this pile o' crap.

4. IF they can do this for conservative media (Roger Simon is conservative)
then why not the same thing for liberal media? I like the idea (although not the name) of citizen journalism. But if they're stacking it with talking head type bloggers, it won't be as friendly an environment as one that leans left.

5. So basically, they'll be moaning and whing about the news and
how unfair it is that this administration and the Republican Syndicate are being blamed for the the mess they've created. It's going to be comical to what. I suspect that they'll be precious little open source commentary. The Right doesn't like to have their opinions debunked and debated.

Too bad Corn has decided to legitimize this scam. It appears they got quite a nice 90's type internet business model going...

6. Glenn Reynolds is not a journalist
he's a law professor, who blogs. This is just another blog, carrying a standard news feed. So it won't originate any journalism. What's the big deal?
