Dear Christian Right, Just a quick note from all of us who have considered and sometimes believed--or even always believed--over the years that between Darwin and Einstein there still lies room for spirituality, God, and mystery. From all of us who have regarded the laws of physics and biology, the theories of evolution and quantum physics, and the face of reality as we are able to grasp it with our measly old five senses as evidence that cannot rule out divinity, but, perhaps, even reveals it in its glory; from all of us who have found our ways to believing the soul might still exist below the chemistry of the brain, that prayer and kind thoughts might--no, DO--still matter; from all of us who believe that more gigabytes of data, endless maps of DNA sequences, and explanations of String theory won't begin to answer or end this universe's most important philosophical questions; from all of us unable to reduce love to atomic level and render the human being an arbitrary collection of systems; from all of us who embrace mystery and belief, our own God, or the unconscious world; from all of us who know the power of good will and trust in mercy and promise and hope; from all of us who know the classroom is the realm of science, art, and enlightenment and outside of it is place to wrestle with and integrate what you've learned into your own beliefs; from all of us, dear Christian Right, thanks for making us look like fucking idiots.
