CIA under investigation in Europe

Last week, both the European Union and the Council of Europe started investigations into reports of secret detention centers in Eastern Europe. The U.N. rapporteur on torture, who said that if the reports were true the CIA is involved in a program of "enforced disappearance."

The Majorca investigation began after the newspaper Diario de Mallorca reported that CIA planes were using the airport. Police in a report said that they had been able to obtain information on the planes and their crews by examining airport records and the registers of local hotels where passengers and crew stayed. <snip>
