How are we going to get California voters out to vote NO!!! Tomorrow!
Edited on Mon Nov-07-05 09:29 PM by LaPera
on Arnold's bullshit proposition's 74, 75, 76, 77, & 78

VOTE NO!!!!

THE REPUBLICANS & MUSCLEHEAD ARNOLD ARE COUNTING ON A LOW VOTER TURNOUT...LOW TURNOUTS ALWAYS FAVOR REPUBLICANS (Example: Remember 1994 Dem's lost 64 seats, lost the House and the Senate...from a very low voter turnout).

We must get voters to encourage others, (family, friends, even strangers), to turnout and vote tomorrow!

AND VOTE NO!!!

3. If they don't care like they didn't in 2000 and 2004
then the assholes deserve arnold

on the other hand, I think just the opposite will happen

people are awakening from the matrix, and they now see reality from tough talk that signifies NOTHING

he has pissed off labor, teachers, and working families in our state, and the people will tell him so

5. You are right...I'm going to go in to the local Democratic HQ to donate
my time and anything I can do first thing in the morning!!!

I made calls for two hours on Saturday, but I want to be sure I've done all I can...because I suspect the republican owned electronic voting machines will make their presences known here in California...you Arnold has OKed it!

6. ? re Election Observers in CA
Tomorrow for the first time I have signed up to be an "election observer". I tried to search election code to see what "election observers" did, but the only reference I could find was to observing the absentee ballot procedures. I received 2 pages from the
local registrar of voters - the first page is a letter anouncing that I am an "official" observor and the second page is a list of what observers can and can't do.

Some of the "can't do" things seemed a bit odd so I called the Secretary of State's office and the local registrar of voters. The local registrar said the list of do's and don'ts came from the Sec. of State's office, but the Sec. of State's office said it was up to the county officials.

Are they making it up as they go along?

Do we have any way of comparing notes between counties/precincts to see what other "election observers" have been told? And is anyone compiling reports from observers to see if there are any systemic problems?

Oh BTW - even though the election code set procedures for observing
absentee ballot procedures, when I asked the local registrar, all the
absentee ballots have ALREADY been opened and separated from their signed envelopes and tallied. So the only thing to observe is when the polls close they punch out the number from the machine. No way at that point to check signatures or anything. Wassup with that?

12. re welcome - thanks.
Hopefully some other readers are election observers and will see this. If not... we need to gear up for the 2006 election and make sure we have lots of official election observers well trained and ready to defend the basis of our democracy - voting.

14. When you go to get your packets tomorrow
from the group you volunteered with, you will get training. There are some dos and don'ts but it's basically designed to not interfere with the voting. You can't wear pins near the polling place, talk to voters, or hand out literature.

There is a statewide Dem party complaint line plus your central organizers have folks to call if problems are found. The Dems do compile complaints and look for patterns.

I'm poll watching and it generally means getting out the vote in your precincts. Some areas may have more problems so you may be asked to watch for problems.

If you have more questions, respond here and I'll try to answer. I've volunteered on elections many times.

8. Call everybody you know
These off-year elections hinge on turnout. Remind everybody you know to go vote, offer to drive them if you have to. Call tomorrow and make sure they went.

Last time I was a poll worker the same young man came in several times after he voted, bringing his sibs, parents and neighbors in to cast thier ballots. It only took a few hours of his time to make sure his friends and family all voted and he may very well have made a difference in some of the local races (if he drove seven our eight people in to our polling place alone I can't imagine how many he called and reminded.)
