VA, CA residents: Is anyone monitoring churches for electioneering?
Edited on Mon Nov-07-05 09:00 AM by DeepModem Mom
I'm across the country, and have only read about the gubernatorial race there, but it appears to me that if the Democrat Kaine loses, it will be because of massive political activity from churches whose members are part of the "religious" Right. If this activity could be documented before this election, a case could at least be made, if not won, for churches involved to lose tax exemption.

I think we might have a chance now to start to diminish the power of a minority of Americans who have been given power far beyond their numbers by Karl Rove and his cohorts. I think most churchgoers in this country, as well as non-churchgoers, if made aware, support separation of church and state, which the Founding Fathers made a bedrock of the concept of America.

ON EDIT: This article is posted in LBN --

Calif. GOP Seeks Religious Push

So the same seems true of California. If Schwarzenegger's propositions are passed, it will likely be because of massive political activity by churches, including inserts in church bulletins. These materials should be collected for use in lawsuits.

1. kilgore has run a Rove dirty campaign, it has turned alot of people off.

I am in Arlington, so maybe what you say is more of a factor in the central and southern parts of VA.

Basicly Kilgore is scum, he will bankrupt the state with tax cuts and mega spending. I hope my fellow Virginians see that the last two Republican govenors left the states finances in shambles.

4. Alexandria REPRESENT!!!
Praying Kaine will win, although as of lately, his ads have been as negative as Kilgore's.

But you could still widen every road within 100 miles of DC, traffic ain't gonna get any better. Took me 9 hours to get to Skyline and back on Sat. Bumper to bumper the whole way.

Arnie's redistricting proposal could turn the state red.

6. This is especially important, in light of...
All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena (about the most liberal in the nation) being is jeopardy of losing their tax exempt status because a former rector said Jesus would not support a pre-emptive war. (this article can be found elsewhere on DU on the right column).
IF such a hideous thing were to happen, we should shut down as many of those hateful RW churches as possible.
