This Delphi situation could lead to a national strike. Could be huge!
GM spin off Delphi employs lots of people here in Michigan and many in other states. They want workers to go from $27/hr. to 9/hr. or they say plants will have to close. It's a slap in the face to workers-who would just as soon shut down the whole auto industry than take that kind of cut. I'm hoping all the unions in the country will join in for a showdown. We have had 30 years of lower living standards for workers and it's time to take a stand.

1. The first thing to be looked at is executive pay
How much is the upper tier making? How about the Board of Directors? Most of those people could propbably make 1/10 of what they are making. The sacrifice needs to be spread to all tiers.

2. that's for sure--executive pay is obscene--you never hear Greenspan ...
give that as a reason for U.S. failure to compete globally.

4. I am kicking this - America and DU needs to pay attention!!
This is what we spend a lot of time blathering on about except that it is happening here and now to these particular people in this particular company. This is the New World Order, this is the trade agreements Bush is trying to negotiate right now, this is offshoring, this is wealth transference, this is corporate misuse of bankruptcy codes to deny pensions and healthcare, this is wealth transferral, in short this is bullshit, but let's call it BUSHSHIT! And let's get behind michigander3 and all the Delphi workers. This is what's wrong with our country!!!!

6. Thanks for your post. I think people are finally waking up...
to the fact the U.S. is rapidly becoming a third world nation. The way Delphi goes will probably be the pattern for the rest of heavy industry in America.

7. This is what happened in the 70's
The masses of people who are working for $5.00 become stunned that there are people on an assembly line making $27 hr and blame the unions for the economic problems. I had no idea Delphi employees were making $27 hr. I certainly know that's how much it takes to have a decent life, but compared to what large chunks of people earn, it's a boatload of money. It's going to take an unprecedented PR campaign to get people to believe the country can function with everybody making $27 an hour.

8. They Would Make Less Money Than Me!
I make $10 an hour, & those workers definitely have more skills than I do! This is disgusting! The Republicans need to go, & so do those DLC idiots who have helped them. They are running this country into the ground, & I am so sick of it.

9. Meanwhile the CEO of Delphi has a multi million dollar salary with
multi millions of dollars in unused stock options! Delphi workers should indeed be pissed! And yes all Unions should stand up for the Delphi workers! What better time for a showdown?

11. Bummer! Michigander, please repost and let's try again.
This is what I'm talkin about! And I'm not kidding! We have most of the problems of our domestic economy in one little neat package right here in this one company.

13. It's over.
The American manufacturing base is dead. We've got China looking over our shoulder, not caring how many of their own workers they have to kill in order to make a few extra bucks. I fear the cause is lost already.
