It's the GAO Report Stupid!

We need to sing about the GAO Report from all available rooftops. Kerry, Miller et al ARE NOT the big story - this is. Please get re-focused on the forest and not the trees.

(edited for better, more accurate title)

3. No, it's the "sour grapes" apparently. John can't have that, see...
he can't be out there in front - or his nice hair might get mussed.

9. I agree Phoebe
But let's use the link to the original report:
http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d05956.pdf

The Free Press article is good, but it's an op-ed.

10. Dean said he'll be making the GAO report an issue
I met him today at a rally for Corzine supporters in Lawrenceville, NJ. He was the one who brought the GAO report up when I mentioned that we can get all the votes out in the world, but if they're not counted accurately it won't matter. He also complimented my "Faux News we distory you comply" t-shirt (agitproperties.com). I urged him to use his position as party leader to bring this GAO report into the media where it has been ignored. Also, for the party to deal with the media issue.

14. Even if he does make it an issue
I seem to see Dean's counterpart, Ken Mehlman, on TV a lot more than I see Dr. Dean.

If we can't get the message out, will anybody hear it?

11. Send it around in email. If the MSM won't spread the news WE WILL
I just sent this around to Dems and Repubs alike so I reminded them in the beginning that it is a "Government Document" and not some made up article.

Need to explain that to repubs.

12. Right, that is the point. There are many stories out there.
It's not about the "hero worship" mood swings, that's getting very old. It's about the Truth Is All;)

13. Here is what I sent out through my networks:
Dear friends,

Most of us have spent countless hours working for change in the political arena. Our efforts will be for naught unless we are assured that our vote will count. I highly urge you to take a few minutes to email a very important request:

It's been a full two weeks now since the non-partisan Government Accountability Office (GAO came out with their 107-page report confirming what so many of us have been trying to ring the bell about for so long: The Electronic Voting Machines which are proliferating counties and states across America even as I type, are not secure, not accountable, not recountable, not transparent, not accurate and not adequately monitored or certified by anybody.

To quote from the alarming landmark report:

Concerns about electronic voting machines have been realized and have caused problems with recent elections, resulting in the loss and miscount of votes.
The Mainstream Corporate Media couldn't care less.

The report was requested by several high-ranking members of the U.S. House of Representatives. It culminated a year-long investigation into the secret Voting Machines and Software now being deployed to the tune of millions of tax-payer dollars to privatize our American Democracy.

The release of the report was accompanied by a bi-partisan News Release which lauded its findings.
That's right. Six high-ranking U.S. Congressmen (3 Dems and 3 Reps) issued the incredibly rare joint News Release together. Two of those Congressmen were Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), chairman and ranking minority member, respectively, of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee respectively. You do understand how rare it is that those two can agree on anything much less issue a joint press release, right?!
And yet, none of the above has been carried by even one wire service or one major American Newspaper. Not one.

News of the landmark non-partisan report and bi-partisan news release was carried on a few Internet sites in a few tech journals , and a couple of tiny independent newspapers. But there has not been a single wire-service (not AP, not UPI, not Reuters, not AFP etc.) nor a single mainstream American print newspaper (not NYTimes, not Washington Post, not any of them) to run even a paragraph on any of it. Not one.

...snip
I'd encourage you to do so as well by dropping a polite request to E&P that they inquire and report on the matter. Perhaps that'll help get some action. And some coverage. Their address is: [email protected]

Here is the simple letter I sent (feel free to cut and paste it if you like):

Nothing is more important to the integrity of a democracy than than fair and transparent elections. The GAO recently released a 107 page scathing report on Electronic Voting Machines in our country. The report states that Electronic Voting Machines in the U.S. are NOT SECURE, NOT ACCOUNTABLE, NOT TRANSPARENT, NOT ACCURATE, AND ARE UNCERTIFIABLE. A bipartisan panel which included both Republican Congressman James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and Democratic Congressman John Conyers (D-MI) released a joint news release (a true rarity in these days of divisive politics) regarding his report, yet the main stream media has ignored it's important findings.

I urge you to get this important information out to the American public, so that pressure will be applied on elected officials to take measures to correct this serious problem. The integrity of the vote in the United States is essential to the strength of our nation.

Here are some e-mail addresses to forward your letter to:

[email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]

If each of us does this and forwards it to several of our friends, we can put pressure on the media to cover this important issue.

Thank you,
