30. Since when is McDonalds the gold standard for American burgers?

I'm from Texas, y'all - this is steak country, and we appreciate real honest-to-God burgers down here. We can even develop an appreciation for burgers made from chicken, turkey, and even veggies, but we are first and foremost steak. Propane, charcoal, mesquite, however you wanna grill it.

Athens, TX claims to be the home of the hamburger, too, but I find that doubtful. If you want to find the world's first hamburger, your best bet is Imperial Rome.

Go to the stock sale barn. At least where I grew up (north Texas) there was a tradition of selling the absolute best burger there was on sale day.

Decatur Texas also claims to be the originator of the burger.
