This morning I watched both NBC and ABC morning shows and both reported on Bush's slump in the polls and released their poll numbers. But of course the big question they had was, "Can Bush turn it around?" because the media cares for nothing more than "the horse race" which is why they spend so much times on polls during election years rather than examining issues.
But ABC actually went out and asked real people what Bush needs to do to "turn it around" and some of the responses were, "He needs to clean house", "He needs to speak honestly with the American people", "He needs to bring the troops home.", ect--all good suggestions.
But if we know anything about Bush it is that his ego will not allow him to admit any mistakes.
1) He will not bring troops home--until the mission is done--which could be ten years or more from now.
2) He will never admit that he made a mistake (that was clear in the debates last year).
3) He will not "clean house" if anything he will accept a few resignations, but he won't fire anybody--not even Rove. He will continue to call them "dedicated public servants."
4) As for "speaking honestly with the American people" this is a guy who lied to involve this country into a war--he will never admit that either.
5) The polls indicate that people are mad about gas prices and he is too beholden to the oil companies to take them on.
6) He will not change coarse on his precious tax cuts for the rich to pay down the debt, pay for Katrina rebuilding, or finance important domestic needs. Why? because if he did that his wealthy friends and donors would be upset--and they are the only ones who count.
What will he do?
1) Try to manufacture more "Terrah" alerts, but people are catching on there too
2) More presidential photo-ops which are becoming way too predictable and ridiculous.
The bottom line--Being a Bush means never having to say "I'm Sorry" or admitting mistakes.
