In last Friday's post, Bob Somerby hinted he may give up the game.

I, for one, hope he doesn't. The number of sites that can be trusted to tell the truth, the whole truth and and nothing but the truth, can be counted on one hand. On some days, on one finger. The loss of Somerby would be a big, big loss.

1. Somerby may have something else on the stringer.

Maybe he's got another project in the pipe, or plans to do something different that's just more positive in tone? One can hope.

I agree with you that I hope Bob Somerby isn't just bailing out. Daily Howler was the first serious left-wing website I found that led me, eventually, here.

2. People who care about the Daily Howler should send Bob some

fan mail. He may still decide to quit doing it in favor of something that makes him some money (even idealists have to eat) but he ought to know how many people appreciate the work he's done with this project.

Just saw that you're hinting at a sabbatical or "not coming back" with the Howler. I realize how exhausting it is to compile the details and details of refuting proof to all the wingnut junk out there, and you are INCOMPARABLE.

We never say "THANK YOU" enough: Bob, THANK YOU. If you're tired or are going on to other things, Godspeed. But I hope we won't lose your voice.

when he announced. Daily Howler is one of the things I HAVE to read every day. He has done such a good job--I spend hours reading those incomperable archives, too!--at getting past the bullshit and telling the truth. He is even great when I don't want him to be (the media's conflation of "uranium in Africa" and Wilson's Niger report)...

If he quits for good, it will be a huge loss.
