Did South America welcome Chimp and Pickles with open arms?

I hope they had lots of signs and people to welcome the motorcade.

2. I just noticed. There hasn't been anything on the news
about this. Of course, I only watch a half hour of broadcast news every day. I will read all my internet sources in the morning of course including DU.

4. the continents had a national holiday so that all people
could cheer and topple statues of Chavez, dance in the streets, and wave US flags. And wear little purple heart bandaids on their faces.

5. I'm not a Spanish-speaker, but you can perhaps hear/watch
some local coverage online. . .I sometimes use http://www.tvradioworld.com

You can locate local radio stations/sometimes television broadcasting from there - also, if you select the "Oceania/Antarctica" link, there is a neat station broadcasting pre-programmed music from way, way down under. . .if you hit that site, go to "links"..and then "Find things" and it will pull up another international online broadcast search engine. There are several Argentinian radio stations broadcasting live online.

I often listen to Australian talk radio (it's interesting to listen to local talk shows in Perth, Australia). I have some other TV links stored online somewhere, if anyone is interested....:-).

6. I don't know, but I seriously doubt it. There was a thread around here
earlier that mentioned businesses boarding up windows in anticipation of demonstrations. Apparently he can't go anywhere without people coming out in force in opposition to him and his policies.

7. South Americans' Discontent Portends a Chilly Reception for Bush
http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/index.php?id=4769

BUENOS AIRES -- As President Bush prepares for a visit to South America this week, thousands of people in the region have been preparing to make sure he knows exactly what they think of him.

In Argentina, where Bush will attend a Summit of the Americas conference Friday and Saturday, small bombs have been tossed at several American bank branches and chain stores, and soccer idol Diego Maradona has urged viewers of his popular TV talk show to join him in a protest to "say no to Bush" outside the meeting, being held in the seaside town of Mar del Plata.

In Brazil, where Bush will meet Sunday with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, thousands of protesters have stood outside the U.S. Embassy with signs labeling Bush "Public Enemy Number One."

The chilly welcome, according to public opinion polls, reflects a general slide of the U.S. government's popularity throughout South America. While some of the criticism centers on the war in Iraq, much of it is linked to regional economic policies such as privatization and low tariffs promoted by multinational lenders and supported by both the Clinton and Bush administrations.
