Libby's Lawyer: "promises to fight it out in a public trial"

http://today.reuters.com/PrinterFriendlyPopup.aspx?type=tnBusinessNews&storyID=nN03318120

<snip>

"With respect, your honor, I plead not guilty," Libby told federal Judge Reggie Walton during his 10-minute arraignment.

...

Libby's newly hired defense lawyer, Theodore Wells, promised a vigorous court battle.

"He (Libby) has declared that he intends to fight the charges in the indictment and he has declared that he wants to clear his good name and he wants a jury trial," Wells said after Libby was fingerprinted and had his picture taken by marshals at the federal courthouse.

Can't wait :-)

2. do you think it will go to trial?
I still think there will be a pardon or a plea before the trial goes too far.

13. The attorney has no choice
but to boldly challenge the charges today. He also said they are not going to contest the case in the media. One can safely conclude that an attorney who tells the press his client is innocent, prepared to fight, but not going to do it in the media is a master showman. He is also sending messages to other interested parties.

7. He's just sending a message to BushCo
He wants to make sure he gets the best deal for doing a few months at Club Fed before the pardon.

You know, after its over, the job at Halliburton, seven figures plus stock options, corner office, company Mercedes, company condo in Vail, generous expense account.

The usual top executive negotiations.

14. Here's a thought from my hubby...
They want it to go to trial, Cheney is called to testify, but invokes the 5th. Cheney agrees to testify only if he gets immunity from Fitzgerald.

Seriously, does anyone really believe this will make it to the trial phase? Isn't there a tad too much dirty laundry?

21. I'm sorry, that's not sucking up to the judge. That's courtroom decorum.
It's very proper. His attorney probably advised him to phrase it exactly in that manner.

17. Of course he does. It's his only hope
The law will allow so many continuances & delays, that it will not start for AGES..and even then, when *² and the Dickster are called as witnesses, Scooter's trial will halt, and a NEW fight will begin about confidentiality.. That will drag on forever, and before we know it, *² will be about to exit stage left, and he will pardon Scooter, and announce an end to the witch-hunt".. end of story :( :puke:

This is too good to be true.

I don't think it will ever come to public trial. And if it does, it will be too late to do any good.

26. I saw that little threatening tirade.
Who is he supposedly talking to? It better not be Pat Fitzgerald. Don't blame him because Libby was dumb enough to lie to a grand jury that wasn't a personal matter.

32. Broadcasting to Bush Admin "Get busy w/my pardon - or else!"
I'm sure Fitzgerald is more than prepared (and couldn't care less).

This was totally for the benefit of Bush - give me a pardon and hurry up before I start dragging everybody in and embarrassing the White House,
