Fed. appeals court rejects United flight attendants: pensions terminated
CHICAGO _ A federal appeals court today rejected an appeal from United Airlines' flight attendants challenging a ruling that allowed the company to terminate its pension plan.

The three-judge panel of the US Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals said they saw "no reason" to undo the bankruptcy court's approval of a plan for United to unload its plans on the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp.

The Pension Benefit Guaranty is the government's pension insurer.

The Association of Flight Attendants argued the pension termination violated its labor contract.

A federal judge in Chicago in July had rejected the flight attendant's challenge.

Years of give-backs ion lieu of an "enhanced pension package later"..years of taking less because the company promised this or that in the pension plan.. and then wham! it's no more..

These companies are STEALING the labor of the present and the peace of mind of the future

bastards.

7. And every major corporation
with a guaranteed pension plan is going to look closely at this and weigh the merits of going through bankruptcy to shed their pension plans vs having to pay out on their commitments.

Note that the 'bankruptcy reform' crap applied to personal bankruptcy not corporate and that corporate bankruptcy remains as easy as it ever was.
