I got a Scooter for Fitzmas!!!
(desertedrose gave me that line)

Pinch me!! A White House official has been indicted!

I am seriously just gobsmacked. Could it be that our system will resist the relentless march towards fascism? Will this country survive Bush intact? Is this ultimately going to end the troglodyte movement in the conservative party?

Rove didn't engineer all this, did he? This can't be what they had in mind when they were drawing up the Project for a New American Century, can it?

6. Well, enjoy it while you can.

If Libby is in fact obstructing the investigation (I assume that he is) then one has to wonder why, of course. The question logically follows. Is he trying to cover his own ass? If so, he's doing a rotten job of it, because he's now facing up to 30 years in jail.

So it seems likely that he is protecting some other person(s) as well. If so, then one can assume that he will continue to obstruct the investigation, and, at some future date, will be pardoned by the President. Libby won't spend one day in jail, and if Fitz can't find a way to proceed without knowing what Libby knows then that will be the end of it.

I'm not ready to celebrate yet.

<On Edit: This from Josh Marshall's TPM>

Remember, I. Lewis Libby doesn't just work for the Vice President.

From the beginning of the administration, a key root of Libby's power at the White House is that he works both for the Vice President (as Chief of Staff and National Security Affairs Advisor) and the President of the United States (as Assistant to the President).

8. There is no way any repuke in his right mind
(if there are any) will let Bush pardon Libby before the midterms. All we need to do is take back one of the houses and it's all over.

9. My observation is that Bush does pretty much what he damn well
pleases. Although, he does have to worry about losing Congress; that would make things tough. But, I've updated my post above to include an interesting piece of info: Libby works directly for Bush. If that's the case, then Bush might have something to worry about that's more immediate than mid-term elections.

I really wonder if Libby will have his day in court. Casper Weinberger didn't.
