Frankin on CNN this AM called for the death penalty
Around 6:20 MDT during an interview about his new book. No time to look up a transcript.

1. He's being sarcastic. He discussed making the same comment...
on the Letterman Show on his radio show yesterday.

5. Franken is anti-death penalty, it is a joke
He uses it to point out that treason during times of war is punishable by death according to the law and the bush admin committed treason with the outing of a covert agent.

You aren't the only one who didn't get it, so to speak, neither did the CNN interviewer, you could tell by the look on her face when he said "Libby and Rove should be executed" roflmao.

6. For the humor impaired: This is called "dark humor!"
Franken is making a dark joke about the serious nature of what Rove, Bush, Cheney, etc. have done.

8. Good lord... I can't believe how many don't recognize dry humor...
Frankin has a very dry wit and he delivers his sarcasm very straight, followed by a chuckle and if watching, a great deal of facial amusement.

Having grown up on that kind of humor I guess I find it surprising so many don't recognize it....The OP is not the only one, as I noted this in some of the comments over at Crooks and Liars for the video of Frankin on Letterman....

9. If you read his 1st book,
you know that he's "kidding on the square".

Here's an excerpt I found from http://www.trenchant.org/daily/2003/9/5/

Later, at the after-party given by Bloomberg News, I went up to Paul Wolfowitz, the deputy secretary of Defense and the architect of the Bush preemption doctrine. "Hi, Dr. Wolfowitz. Hey, the Clinton military did a great job in Iraq, didn't it?"

He looked at me for a couple seconds, then said, "Fuck you."

Which I thought was funny. I think he was "kidding on the square," a phrase I hope will catch on. It means kidding, but also really meaning it. People do it all the time. "Kidding on the square." If this book does two things, I want it to get "kidding on the squre" into the lexicon, and I want it to get Bush out of the White House.
