Iraq/ Vietnam: Compare..
It is official; there are now more than 2,000 American military deaths in Iraq, and more than 14,000 wounded. There are no official estimates of the number of Iraqi civilians killed, but the number is sure to be many times higher than American deaths.

The Iraq war is sounding more and more like the Vietnam war.

Vietnam was a war fought more than 30 years ago in the jungles of Southeast Asia. Iraq is a war fought in the cities and deserts of the Middle East.

Vietnam was fought purportedly as part of the larger battle against international communism. Iraq is being fought purportedly as part of a larger war on international terrorism.

But there are many similarities:

1. Hubris...yet again. "little yella' dwarves" LBJ "failied insurgency" GWB.
They still think that war is about casualties, bomb tonnage, and braggadocio.

It took a long time to admit that the mighty US was defeated in Vietnam. I doubt that it will take that long to see the obvious in this latest display of American arrogance.
