Rangel alluded to PNAC on Hardball tonight!
Edited on Thu Oct-09-03 10:15 PM by gauguin57
In response to Matthews' yipping about "Why can't we find the damned WMDs" ... Rep. Charles Rangel said that Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld etc. etc. made their minds up to take on Iraq LONG BEFORE 9/11, and then used 9/11 as excuse. He basically laid out the PNAC plan, mentioning PNAC signators but not "PNAC" specifically.

Now THAT's what I'm talkin' about!

No link ... it's on MSNBC as we speak.

12. Hayworth Is The One That Sends Me Over The Edge
Don't know what it is about him... but I'd like to see him stomped on and I'm not a violent person.

He has some ugly karma surrounding him.

2. Too bad he wasn't on a network news show...or 60 Minutes...
Hardball, in spite of Matthews' arrogance, is watched by less than a million people....and he's aiming at the right, so I guess most of those watching are morons and wouldn't even want to know what Rangel is trying to say.

Pity, a real pity...

9. Project for the New American Century
Neo-con thinktank that has been agitating for the invasion of Iraq and overthrow of Saddam Hussein for ten years. Signatories to their policy papers include Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Perle. In short, they believe the US should be the one great world power, and should exercise that power unilaterally. They advocate conquering the ME and "democratizing" it, then moving north toward N. Korea and China. They believe in US "hegemony" - ONE superpower. They made these plans and once they got Bush Jr. in office they had their chance to enact them. The Iraq war was planned by them years before September 11.

http://www.csmonitor.com/specials/neocon/neocon101.html

"Neocons" believe that the United States should not be ashamed to use its unrivaled power – forcefully if necessary – to promote its values around the world. Some even speak of the need to cultivate a US empire. Neoconservatives believe modern threats facing the US can no longer be reliably contained and therefore must be prevented, sometimes through preemptive military action.

They also believe the US is unnecessarily hampered by multilateral institutions, which they do not trust to effectively neutralize threats to global security.

What
Sounds like the Iraq war.

If you scroll down you will see reference to pnac. It might be old news so forgive me, I am still relatively new to DU

10. further ...
PNAC stands for what the media really needs to jump on RIGHT NOW ... we're in the perfect valley of DOUBT concerning Bush & Co.'s so-called reasons for going to war. Only "Nightline" has really delved into PNAC ... this is a perfect time for it to be splashed all over the place so people will finally wake up to the TRUTH!

Here's the PNAC manifesto ...
http://www.newamericancentury.org/RebuildingAmericasDefenses.pdf

Here's the "Nightline" description, from its March broadcast.

http://www.abcnews.go.com/sections/nightline/DailyNews/pnac_030310.html

"Were Neo-Conservatives’ 1998 Memos a Blueprint for Iraq War?"

"— Years before George W. Bush entered the White House, and years before the Sept. 11 attacks set the direction of his presidency, a group of influential neo-conservatives hatched a plan to get Saddam Hussein out of power.

"The group, the Project for the New American Century, or PNAC, was founded in 1997. Among its supporters were three Republican former officials who were sitting out the Democratic presidency of Bill Clinton: Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney and Paul Wolfowitz.
In open letters to Clinton and GOP congressional leaders the next year, the group called for "the removal of Saddam Hussein's regime from power" and a shift toward a more assertive U.S. policy in the Middle East, including the use of force if necessary to unseat Saddam.

"And in a report just before the 2000 election that would bring Bush to power, the group predicted that the shift would come about slowly, unless there were "some catastrophic and catalyzing event, like a new Pearl Harbor."

"That event came on Sept. 11, 2001. By that time, Cheney was vice president, Rumsfeld was secretary of defense, and Wolfowitz his deputy at the Pentagon.

"The next morning — before it was even clear who was behind the attacks — Rumsfeld insisted at a Cabinet meeting that Saddam's Iraq should be "a principal target of the first round of terrorism," according to Bob Woodward's book Bush At War.

"What started as a theory in 1997 was now on its way to becoming official U.S. foreign policy." .....

11. Close. Not close enough.
I don't see why someone prominent doesn't just show the courage to bring this up. Not even this "renegade" I support.
