My boss is a Hispanic Republican!
Can you believe this...a Hispanic Republican??? How is that even possible? Kinda like "Jewish Nazis." Republican are the most anti-minority people on the planet! He says he voted for the recall and for McClintock. He says he's pro-life , pro death penalty, pro prayer in public schools, and he says America was founded on Judeo Christian values(What do you all say when you hear a repub spew this?)

Do any of you have any tips on how I can even begin to try to attempt to knock some sense into him about the Republican party&minorites among other things?

1. uh sorry to scare you? But mexicans, hispanics, our friends from south of
the border are very religious, family oriented, spiritual and conservative people.

Why would they be anything else?

3. Right but I've understood that fiscally they're pretty liberal right?
And doesn't the pro-minority stance of the left draw them to the left?

17. Overgeneralizing about Hispanics that way is a common mistake
Maybe the results of the recent recall election here in California will give Democratic leaders a clue about the diversity of Hispanics.

9. but how can religious, family oriented, spiritual people vote for
republicans?

I am family oriented and I vote for the Dems because they have done the most for families... from FDR, Truman, Johnson, Clinton..etc

I am a spiritual person and I vote Democratic...

I am a cafeteria Catholic but vote Democratic because I care about other people...isn't that really what Jesus was trying to tell us???

Conservative...well that I am not...I open my heart up to others and will gladly give what I can afford to give...

Note I am not bashing you...but the concept that Repukes have a handle on those issues when they clearly don't..

But I'd advise against "knocking sense into" your boss in this day and age. I want you employed, even if it is by a misinformed soul.

6. My mother was Hispanic and a Republican.
Anything to the left was a communist as far as she was concerned. I wasn't allowed to date without a chaperone back then and she measured my skirts from the floor to make sure they weren't too short. The family values tripe appeals to Hispanics, who incidentally really do practice family values, unlike the lip service the Repukes give it.

Upper class Hispanics like rich Americans tend to be Republican. To be a Democrat is to admit you are working class. I just couldn't be a conservative like my parents. As time went on, my skirts got shorter and my politics more socialistic.

8. There are a lot of Cuban-Americans, the ones who left Cuba or
whose family left Cuba when Castro came in. They were the aristocracy of Cuba. They owned everything and ran everything and had everything. They want things back like they used to be.

The rest of the Cubans had almost nothing. They are likely to be Democrats.

So of course the pre-Castro Cuban emigres are Republicans. What else would they be? They're greedy, selfish, arrogant, and very, very undemocratic.

13. yes
The Cuban Americans in Miami are a gigantic voting block for the Republican party. The Republicans tremble before them, quite literally. Cuban AMericans seem to think that Republicans care about them, because they think Democrats are stalinist socialists like Castro. It's logical, but wrong.

10. Hispanics Are Not a Block
In countries from Mexico through the Carribean through South America there are rich wingnut classes and poor "Liberal" classes. It's mostly economics not culture or Hispanicity that decides the politics.

Also, it's a wingnut talking point of conventional wisdom to say that, because Hispanics are supposedly strong in "family values", this means they are natural "Conservatives" in the sense of American politics. Actually, they are similar to the "lapsed Catholic" phenomenon----going through the motions of ritual in the basics of getting their children baptized and such, but ignoring the wingnut dogma of anti-choice. There is room for bawdiness, extra-maritalism, and other things contradictory to strait laced "family values"----so long as a basic discretion is observed.

Wingnutism in Hispanics is evident in both the wingnut military dictatorships and in small (or large) business people----just like U.S. wingnutism.

14. Okay, why did you say minority?
Remember just because we are considered a minority here, doesn't mean we are a minority south of the Rio Grande all the way down to the Tierra del Fuego at the southern tip of the Americas, and like here we have all the diversity America and Canada has.

23. You're right...
and I apologize for the way I stated my post. I took the original post to mean that the boss shouldn't be conservative because conservative policies work against minorities in the US. My post was intended to state that conservative policies work against the vast majority of all people in the US,so it was no more unlikely that her boss would be conservative then it is for anyone else.

12. Hispanice aren't really monolithic as a people.
They come from many different countries, and they've been here in this country for wildly varying legnths of time. They're in all different kinds of socio-economic demographics. Around these parts, where there aren't very many people whose families have been here more than a few generations, there are lots of hispanics who are pretty much just like Italian Americans were just a generation ago, in terms of where they are in American life.

They are exactly like Republicans and come from countries where cheap labor is readily available. They'll treat you like property, if you let them.

16. So are my neighbors and a family of restauranteurs I know
And several of my coworkers. Some of them don't even speak Spanish. It's not that unusual in Southern California for second- or third-generation Hispanics who are socially conservative and/or run businesses to be Republicans.

How is that even possible? Kinda like "Jewish Nazis." Republican are the most anti-minority people on the planet!

Either all Republican Hispanics are out of their freaking minds or you are indulging in prejudices and misconceptions about Hispanics. Maybe about Republicans too.

He says he's pro-life , pro death penalty, pro prayer in public schools, and he says America was founded on Judeo Christian values(What do you all say when you hear a repub spew this?)

Is it possible he's a devout Roman Catholic? Most Hispanics are Catholics whether or not they practice it actively.

19. As a Hispanic Woman
I am a Hispanic woman from South Texas. The majority of the people I work with are hispanic. It drives me crazy to no end that most of them, it seems, are supporters of Shrub. When I ask them why they are shrub supporters, all they can say is, "Well Clinton was the one that created the huge deficit, Bush inherited it from Clinton". WTF!! These people are totally misinformed because most of them listen to that piece of shit Limbaugh as if he was the spokesperson for the Hispanic people. I was born and raised a Democrat thanks to my dad. He was a union organizer that helped many hispanics fight for their jobs when they were treated unfairly and unjust because of their race. So as a Hispanic, I just want to slap them upside their head because of their ignorance. Republicans do not care about minorities.

27. It isn't logical

To join a political party that doesn't like them or their "kind."
The Anti-Immigration stance that Repubs believe in is just racism. That's why I really resented Arnold when he went on and on about being an immigrant. White immigrants are treated alot differently than immigrants of color. They don't round up Illegal Irish immigrants.

That's why I don't understand why any women, gays, and minorities are republicans. If I join the Repub Party do I become an honorary White?

29. I also read that a higher percentage of young Hispanic
men serve in the military than any other ethnic group. Since the military tends to involve shoving a fair amount of Republican "values" down young kids throats (not saying it sticks in every case as exemplified by the many great DU veterans)that may help to solidify conservative tendencies begun in earlier family life.
