"Blair Warns Labour Against Far-Left Shift"
Edited on Sun Oct-16-05 02:48 PM by GreenPartyVoter
LONDON (AP) - Prime Minister Tony Blair said Saturday that his Labour Party must stay in touch with voters' concerns and hold the political center ground if it is to remain in office.

In a speech to party activists, he warned against shifting too far to the left, saying that would only create an opportunity for the Conservative Party, which has languished in opposition since Blair led Labour back to power in 1997.

"What we must not do is fall for some modern version of the old left delusion - that the problem with the progressive government is that it is not left enough and if only its leadership rediscovered its true principles, all would be well," he said.

"We know where that leads - to a right-wing Conservative government. Always has done, always will."

How about the party follows the will of the PEOPLE without calculating whether or not it will piss off the elites.

3. America won't allow it
and currency traders will see that Britain is punished for expressing a will independent from the laissez-rape capitalist orthodoxy on the west bank of the atlantic.

Laissez-faire or a B-52 over your head, Britain--it's your choice.

6. New Labor = DLC. Moderate Tories and Moderate Republicans.
How many times have we been warned by the Pablum Democrats about being "too liberal" while they wag their tails for their capitalist bosses?

7. There IS a similarity in the rhetoric
of Blair and the DLC, why is that?

Could it be that the poodle is so in love with the corporatist profiting by privatization, much like their counterparts pulling the chain on the DLC. Who knows, maybe it's the same corporatist pulling both the DLC's chain and Tony's leash.

8. He didn't warn against a rightwing shift, instead he engineered it.
So his credibility on any shift is not exactly the best.
