Compassionate conservatives?

This story in our local paper broke my heart:

It doesn't seem to me that Richard Cozad is asking for so very much. He just wants his son home from the war. It's not a protest or any sort of political statement.

His wife's dying, you see, and he thinks their oldest son, Deven, ought to have a chance to say goodbye.

On Friday morning, the military relayed its response through the local chapter of the American Red Cross.

Request denied.

DU ought to bombard the Pentagon with letters and e-mails and spread the story so as to embarrass the crap out of the Army Brass. Maybe that will get him home.

4. My heart goes out to this family.

In addition to Deven, Mr. & Mrs. Cozad also have a 3 year old and 2 teenagers.

This young man should be granted the opportunity to come home to say good-bye to his Mom. There is no compassion or sympathy in this cold, cruel and callous decision. I hope it will be reconsidered quickly.
