Either Republicans are Racist or We are Being Played Big Time!

Here we have Ms Miers, whom all signs point that she is clearly anti women's freedom to choose their health direction and would most likely overturn Roe Vs Wade.

I have been told the number one reason that these religious right fanatics are pro-Bush and the main reason for their overwhelming support was the abortion issue. Now we have a nominee, Ms Miers, who is anti-freedom of choice but has shown signs of being pro Gay and Civil rights.

I have always thought that the right used abortion and religion as a cover for their deep down racist, anti-immigrant, anti-gay agenda. I think the far religious right's opposition to Ms Miers is proof that abortion is NOT their most important issue and as we peel the onion, it all about racism and warmongering.

OR

Karl Rove is playing us and has intentionally created far right opposition to Miers in the hope that Democrats might think she is a moderate and hence be more open to support her nomination. In the end, Roe vs Wade is overturned and the religious right wins, and women loose their freedom.

Not only that but as Bush's legal counsel and now nominee, all documents pertaining to Miers' role as Bush's attorney will be sealed, maybe for the rest of his life and he is protected from any charges, maybe including impeachment.

I am confused and don't know what to believe. What say you?

1. I go with the second one. They lock-step on everything else
Why not this? Since when has anyone in the GOP cared about what was right or wrong? They just read the morning blast fax and squawk like parrots.

2. Stay neutral, that's my advice
Be neither for or agin' her. Just sit back and watch the boxing match amongst the 'conservatives'. This won't end with a confirmation nor with a withdrawal of her name. There's some big discontent here.

The Dems in power won't make this a big fight (when have they ever?), but the smart thing is to let this sail thru.

The GOP is slowly crumbling from inside.....

4. Bush is pro-corporation and the upper elites....
And as such care less about any item than what benefits the elites. Thus Bush care less about race, sex, sexual orientation, immigration etc. unless it affects the bottom line of his fellow elites (Thus for example Bush says he is anti-immigrant but continues to leave them in for his corporate buddies want to use them to keep wages low).

Bush and the GOP know they can NOT win any election on a pro-corporation platform, so they use wedge issues to get people to vote for them. Abortion is a classic case, religious fundamentalism oppose abortion thus so does Bush to get their vote (But since Roe vs Wade is a Constitutional decision Bush's Corporate supporters know they do NOT really have to delivery on banning abortion, just blame the Evil and Wicked Supreme Court, thus keeping traditional republican women voting GOP for Tax cuts).

The same can be said of Gun Control, no case involving the Second Amendment will ever reach the Supreme Court for the GOP want to be able to use the Fear of Gun Control to get rural residents to continue to vote GOP instead of Democratic. The Gay rights cases I believe are similar, every Democratic Controlled State Supreme Court has ruled that if the State wants Gay marriage it is something the State Legislature must do (Thus killing the issue as a political issue), but you had the Massachusetts Supreme Court (all but one Justice a Republican) voting for Gay Marriage during a Presidential Election year. As soon as the decision came down you had your Defense of Marriage Amendments in other states (At a speed to quick to be by chance). The GOP did NOT need Massachusetts to win the Presidency in 2004 so the ruling caused no problem for Corporate America, but it did cause problems for Democrats in the marginal states like Ohio, Michigan and other Midwestern States.

My point here is Don't assume Racism, Sexism, anti-gayism, Anti-Immigrant etc when greed of Corporate America can explain the situation. On every issue where it came down to choose between what Corporate America Wanted and what the Conservative Religious Fundamentalists want, Bush backed Corporate America over any other conservative group and he will continue to do so. He supported Logging over the Objection of the NRA (Which tend to have strong environmental concerns, through not as much as 20 years ago), Bush says he would never take someone's guns, and then did so in New Orleans when it appear Guns may be used against the interest of Corporate America, Bush has says he wants to stop illegal immigrants, but his budgets cut aid to do so, Bush says he oppose Gay Marriage, but that is easy given that Marriage is reserved to the states, He says he oppose HIV medical assistance, but increases the amount since that reduces the costs of HIV to Corporate America, Bush opposes Abortion but refuses to permit women time off from work to have a child since that would hurt Corporate America, Bush Claims he supports religion but opposes any effort by America's Black Churches to become more political (While permitting White Fundamentalist Churches to do so).

My point here is Bush is Pro-Corporate America and nothing more and thus do NOT assume he is anything else unless it is needed to get elected.
