I mean, not hateful insane. Well, yes, hateful, but not Phelps EVIL hateful. More like she has massive brain damage and sees the world in a way completely seperate from reality.

She was actually quite civil with Bill, considerng. Half the shit she said I practically had to spit-take in response to, but... well, not evil. Just completely fucking crazy.

70. Sullivan endorsed John Kerry in 2004.
A lot of conservatives who are criticizing Bush now are doing so only because the feel it is "safe" to do so, because the election is over. Sullivan isn't one of them. He's been going after Bush for nearly two years. Importantly, he spoke out *before* the 2004 election.

I disagree with many of his positions, but I do admire him for being honest. Certainly, he's no unthinking partisan.

34. I thought Kayle Williams was great,
the lady who was a translator of Arabic in the military and who just returned from Iraq. She described an incident of torture where a military interrogator went "over the line" and the fact that the higher ups are not getting punished for promoting torture. I saw this lady interviewed on CNN but the talking head didn't let her speak about her war experiences.

46. Andrew Sullivan is a changed man. I just went to his website and he is
livid about the McCain bill that Dr. Evil Cheney has threatened everyone about. All the DU'ers that have said they think the 'tide is changing' were right. I was pessimistic, they were right, the tide has changed. His base has turned.

63. Sullivan was changing before the 2004 election. He was very upset
with the Religious Righteous' control of the GOP and as a gay man and as a human being he was apalled. I get the feeling that he is someone who has embraced the teachings of Christ and he knows that these imposter Christians are murderous thugs. He wasn't too happy voting for Kerry, calling him the lesser of two evils, but he did endorse Kerry prior to the election. Here is his column.

49. my impressions
Sully was consistent with what he has been posting for the past 4 months. His positions tonight were no mystery one needed only to check is blog occasionally to see this affirmed daily. Sully is a traditional conservative, more in the realm of william buckley. He drives me crazy in some facets (OK many) but he is consistent and has been a real bulwark on the prisoner abuse thing. Rushdie was a pleasant surprise. I was afraid he would come off more like his good friend Hitch but he obviously has thought more about the ramifications of strict opposition to "islamo-fascism" Affleck was a joke, a fucking joke. I have never been impressed with him no matter what wing of the democratic party he is trying to parrot. IMO we would be wise to avoid him in any upcoming elections. He changes his positions quick as hell and is always looking to get on the good side of the issue... plus he has the intelligence of a trained snail... sorry but its the way I see things. All in all it was entertaining to see Sully hit his favorite points and Rushdie commend himself quite well. Good show.

61. I have to echo your judgment on Affleck.
I posted something here recently about him that was negative in a thread suggesting he might run for the Senate in VA.

It was posited that he had a brain under that "gorgeous" head of his. Frankly, I don't see either.

He may have impressed some when he toured with Kerry, but I wasn't witness to that, and he may be an outspoken progressive, but based on what little we heard from him last night on Bill Maher, he doesn't rise to the articulate level I'd like to see in a U.S. Senator. Hell, he didn't even match George Carlin, who's far more than a comedian, as his recent turn on Bill Maher a couple of weeks ago proved to many.

68. Wow - last night was a really good show.....
Ann Coulter - she looked fairly pretty this time, but she's still quite irrational. How did she make such a name for herself? She makes no sense. And she does kinda bring the organic crazy, imo. She reminds me of videos of crazy people with their therapists - where they say soemthing outlandish, but then they do that wierd head-duck, but no other visual cue that they may be anything other than dead serious.

Andrew Sullivan - bless his heart for waking up. He does need to not be so sanctimonious about religion, but I'm glad he made soem really good points about the False Christians, and what real Christians do. As I said above - looks like he had a really hard time keeping his feelings for Ben in check.

I was pleasantly surprised that Ben was smart - he was really good at explaining te Florida gun law.

As for Salman Rushdie - he was no surprise to me - he's the type of intelligentsia I'm used to.

Like that Kyla girl - she was very well-spoken on her positions - I will be picking up her book.
