The United States going the way of the Soviet Union?
Is the United States going the way of the Soviet Union? Decimiated economy, short life span, imperial overreach, social destruction, the whole bit?

I always thought that the cold war was a battle between two ultamite losers. I never thought I'd be right...

4. I think we are in for some narrowing of our
perspective, shall we say? But we don't have the huge issue of all those territories to disengage from.

6. Bin Laden seems to be pulling a Ronald Reagan.
Forcing a country into bankruptcy by spending too much on their military.

7. The Soviet economic system was on the brink of collapse before Reagan
Many think that Reagan's hard line & ramping up of defense spending caused the hardliners in the Soviet Union to dig in their heels. A more moderate stance might have ended the Cold War in 1981 instead of having it last throughout the 80s.

9. Yep
When you spend all your dough on the military and put nothing into education, healthcare, jobs and infrastructure..well whaddya get? Not much but a lot of war. The cost of fear is enormous. The cost of propaganda incaluable.
