DUer in the News
Some of my friends here at DU know that i have tried to give a labor perspective to this board.

I have enjoyed posting and reading the responses.

Others know that I am seeking elective office in my home town. Why leave it to someone else?

Well, today the Massachusetts Senate will debate and vote on slot machines at racetracks here. I represent the workers at the horse track, which is in Boston and my hometown of Revere.

Anyway, the story is in the Boston Globe this morning (11/6), and I'm quoted. It might not be a big deal as compared to the heavy stuff we usually talk about here, but I thought a couple of you folks might be interested.

My quote is in the 7th paragraph of the story.

Here's the link:

1. DUers do good work..
We are better informed and more involved than the av-er-age bear. I honestly believe that Labor will help break the back of the neo-con death grip.
Good luck in your race!

4. Way To Go Louis You IBEW Dudes Are The BEST!
Edited on Thu Oct-06-05 05:07 AM by Binka
I ran a bunch of political phones banks calling union workers in NO CA in the late 90's and the IBEW guys and gals were just the best.

Good luck on the vote! I am a race track junkie myself. Santa Anita, Hollywood, and Del Mar are my tracks of choice. I am in Sicily now so I bet online! I am very good. Really.

I'll play an excata for you today and if I win I will send you a campaign contribution.

edit for grammar! Stoink I hate it when I do that!

14. Cool!
Do you think the reporters accurately represented what you told them? (I always wonder about journalists "translations")

Also, you're the guy with the friend who won the lottery? I sometimes remember things...

16. Massachussets Senate Votes 26 to 9 for Slots at Racetracks
just got back from the state house.

First step is complete. a veto-proof vote in the Senate.

On to the House, and let's win there.

19. Yes
The newspapers have been OK.

This morning, however, I did an interview on WRKO with a right wing talk show host, John Di Pietro (9:00-9:30 AM).

It was rough, but I kept my cool, and those who heard it said I did OK.

This issue was on the back burner for five years, now all of a sudden, it's the news of the day.

A little overwhelming.

And we ALL need to get out there. I'm doing some precinct walking this weekend against these "Ahnold" propositions on the ballot in November.

24. GO LOUIS!
''We haven't had a positive vote yet; the closest we came was 2003," said Louis Ciarlone, president of IBEW Local 123, which represents about 200 employees at Suffolk Downs. Saying that several labor unions were lobbying feverishly to ensure a victory, he added, ''I think we're the underdog on this, but I believe we have a fighting chance, and that's good enough for me."

Thanks for being so involved! :patriot:
