Photo of * needing help down some stairs today.

Archbishop of Washington, Theodore McCarrick (R) helps U.S. President George W. Bush down a step outside the St. Matthews Cathedral in Washington, October 2, 2005. Bush and new U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts had joined other dignitaries for the 52nd annual Red Sunday Mass, the traditional Sunday morning religious service on the eve of the new Supreme Court Session. Roberts will preside over the Supreme Court for the first time on October 3. REUTERS/Yuri Gripas

27. Most of Bush's supporters would flip out if they saw him in Catholic garb.
There is a strong hatred of Catholics among the rank and file hard core Protestant Republicans. I saw it first hand in my area after JPII died.

24. Catholics almost never take the Book of Revelation seriously.
I have never even heard about the rapture while attending a Catholic mass. There have been times when the Catholic Church has considered throwing the Book of Revelation out of the Bible.

31. For more info about Rapture
Try Wikipedia, basically the idea of Rapture came about after the Protestant Reformation and because Catholic dogma was well established by that time the idea was not incorporated into their teachings.

Something interesting about that link is that the Rapturists (seems like a good word to use) point to a few more verses then just those in Revelations, havent really studied religion in a few years so I don't know how far out of context those verses are.

40. Generally that is the case
as it is only used twice in Gospel readings over the three year cycle.

Yet today's comments by BXVI are a bit unsettling.

http://www.zenit.org/english/visualizza.phtml?sid=77484

"
But the threat of judgment affects us also, the Church in Europe, the Church of the West in general. With this Gospel the Lord also cries out in our ears the words he addressed in Revelation to the Church in Ephesus: "I will come to you and remove your lamp stand from its place, unless you repent" (2:5). The light can also be taken away from us, and we would do well to allow this warning in all its seriousness to resonate in our souls, crying out at the same time to the Lord: "Help us to be converted! Give us the grace of an authentic renewal! Do not permit the light to be extinguished among us! Reinforce our faith, our hope and our love so that we can bear good fruit!"
