Hillary Clinton reminds everyone of their first wife
I was channel surfing this AM and McLaughlin was interviewing
Frank Lutz, the Republican pollster and some other man. They
were talking about possible Democratic presidential candidates
and when Hillary was mentioned Luntz said "The trouble with Hillary
is she reminds everyone of their first wife". Well as a first wife
of twenty two years, I considered that very offensive, but I guess
it's a status symbol for those Christian conservatives to dump
their old wifes and get a trophy wife when they become
successful. I just could not believe he would even make a statement
like that but than again, I have to consider the source.

If Hillary does run, I do hope they use that as a campaign slogan
against her.

1. I am still married to my first wife and I hope that she will outlive me.
I don't know that my wife reminds me of Hilliary Clinton except that my wife is a very intelligent woman, but certainly this slogan would prompt me to think more highly of Mrs. Clinton than I might otherwise.

I note that Mrs. Clinton had to deal with a marital infidelity, something my first wife will never know.

3. My family was watching that too - what a stupid
thing to say and SEXIST. Not surprising as you say - consider the source. Would we hear someone say that about Joe Biden - he reminds the "important voters" of their first husband.

What an ass.

One good thing about McLaughlin, he actually asking questions of the two honyocks on his show who were most definitely spitting the Republican talking points, that are pertinent and to the point. Almost think he is a closet Democrat... and there is that possibility that he is a legitimate journalist/newsperson who hasn't been bought yet. I would have been impressed if he had jumped on Clutz' sexist remark and asked him to explain.

4. Well, then -
They must:
seriously love her
enjoy her company
listen when she has something to say
tolerate her (very few ;) ) foibles, quirks and eccentricities
stand by her during the bad times
stand behind her when it's her turn to lead
lead when she's the one who's lost
hold her hand when she's sick
share hopes, dreams, fears, tears and joy
turn to her when they need help
help when she asks for it
know that it's not always gonna be sunshine and lollipops
be faithful to her and know they have the same in return
gain from her knowledge
accept her general grouchiness
welcome her smiles
grow stronger as the years go by
look forward to seeing her
know that 'if momma ain't happy, nobody's happy'
help her be the best she can be
hold firmly together come hell or high water

first wife of 26? or is it 27? years now (I'm so bad at dates). It isn't all bad.

14. It's not him, it's just me - channeling.
Wouldn't dare interrupt the Bucs game to ask for his input right now. But that is pretty much how we've gotten through so long together.

We're both 'keepers' - mostly because nobody else would put up with either one of us, and we know it. LOL :hi:

5. Yeah - some of the rich assholes don't believe in monogamy. The richer
they get.. time to trade in your kid's mother for a newer model. Fine if that is how you want to live your life. But not if you keep getting elected as a christian. Not when your values are so lauded. And you claim to be all white light.

One thing for sure... it really does remind us that MBA is just testosterone in a pin stripe suit and it is all about getting some ass and/or power - same as with any schemer or criminal. Testosterone is the issue. Why we need regulations on corporations the same as we need criminal law & property law. You let that testosterone get out and run wild - and mayhem develops.

6. She doesn't remind ME of my first wife
But then again, I'm female, as are more than fifty percent of the population. The statement is ludicrous on many levels, but the fact that Luntz considers "everybody" to be male is especially absurd. Of course to the repukes, everyone who counts is male and white.

7. What a damning statement
Forget, for a moment, how sexist it is, think how immoral it is. According to virtually every religion I have ever heard of marriage is supposed to be forever. The notion that this Republican can't even concieve of someone staying married to their first wife for ever speaks volumes.

22. It is immoral and hypocritical
These assholes have no problem telling the rest of us how to live our lives. The least they can do is pretend that they hold the same values that they want the rest of us to hold.

This (first and only) wife wonders if Frank Luntz knows anything about wives. Who'd have him, and what wife, or partner, lets somebody go around looking like that?

when they first asked him why Republican voters hated Hillary so much, but as I recall, he said it as 'She reminds men over fifty of their first wife'.

16. Don't let Lunz offend you. He is a hollow mouthpiece for a corrupt
organization. His EXISTENCE is offensive. Never mind the details.

And yes, he is a shithead, a cipher, a liar, a buffoon, and probably a deviant. Please don't let this rat-bastard upset you. I guarantee he didn't upset Hillary. If she heard about it at all, she probably smiled, exposing her teeth nicely. Lunz is a putz.

Do ALL of these damned fools think men marry more than once, and that their first wives are a bunch of wrinkled, bitchy, old prunes, unlike their trophy wives that they ditched them for?

Frank Lutz in involved. Believe me, this came right out of his focus groups. You will hear this more and more as the election cycle approaches.

25. The First Wives Club
Edited on Sun Oct-02-05 02:20 PM by oldcoot
Luntz's comments remind me of the book The First Wives Club, which was about a group of first wives that got even with their ex-husbands. I think that the book was fairly popular book at the time.

I also hope that women between the ages of forty- to sixty-years old pay special attention to his comments.
