Mine are all repuglicans. My emails and letters are summarily ignored. I can't write to yours because I don't have an addresss in your district and they'll ignore me as much as my own reps already do. This has frustrated me for a long time.

But...

If I could move in with you, virtually, and become a constituent of your representative, my voice would be added to yours in addressing leaders who might actually listen.

All you have to do is this: whenever you email your rep about an issue near and dear to our Democratic hearts, send an email in my name, too.

I won't eat your food. I won't use your utilities, dirty your house, or make more laundry for you to do. I won't lodge in your basement like the proverbial thirty-year-old kid who never moved out. I just want you to use my name when you write to your Democratic reps.

Any takers?

1. I can't help you
I have one Republican (Martinez) and one Democrat (Nelson) who may as well be a Republican because he votes with them most of the time.

I will now be directing my emails and letters to Rep. Pallone and Sens. Lautenberg and Corzine.

15. You'd love yours if you had mine
I have Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn. Sadly, Kay Bailey is the intelligent, compassionate one. We can trade any time you like.

3. I'd love to help ya, but I'm in the same spot!
I write to mine anyway! I figure, if all the Dems in my area write, and most of the Pubs don't, it might have some impact.

I know I love answering "All the time" when someone asks me how often do you write or call your rep, Sen, or Pres? I'm sure most people don't write or call, no matter what party they are.

5. I share your pain.
2 R's for senate and 1 R for house. I still write them but get no answers. Their office staff hangs up as quickly as humanly possible if I call. It really feels terrible. I do write to others peoples reps. I do not get answers but I do it anyway. At least I feel like my mail might make it past the reading of my return address.

12. Yeah, I know. I still write, too.
I can't remember the issue I wrote to McCain about, but his letter back to me said exactly this: "I disagree."

That's the only "real" response I ever got. All of his other letters have been pre-printed stock answers.

8. It could be worse, you know
I live in crazy red f*cking JOklahoma where most repuglicans are certifiably insane young earth creationist fundies who nonetheless worship the almighty dollar and lust for still more power and prosperity.

Seriosuly, I feel your pain.

You can come to the land of the bean and the cod. We have a solid all-Democratic Congressional delegation and have lots of good Dems in the Congress. I can teach you the accent and how to root for the Red Sawx. You will gain some provincialism, a certain amount of reserve and aloofness, but everything is a trade off these days.

My Rep is Meehan and he is in the "Out of Iraq" coalition, as are 8 out of 10 MA Reps. Not bad.

PS I love Meehan!

However, in order to impersonate a Bay Stater, you will have to have a certain amount of fatalism inserted into your personality. This just struck when I got the new copy of The Atlantic and realized while reading an article that actually had nice things to say about Boston that it made me uneasy. When the article started to list our flaws, I felt much better. Sigh!

So, in order to pass for a Bay Stater you have to apparently forget good things happen here and that sometimes, despite all efforts to the contrary, people sometimes like us. (This confounds the crap out of real Bay Staters. "What do you mean you like us? Why? What did we ever do to you that you should like us?) We're proud of our State, but real Bay Staters never mention that in public because, ahm, it might make us look good and no good could possibly ever come from that. (Walk humbly before God and don't expect much from people. it's the Massachusetts Way. Oh and learn the phrase, "Bite me." It's universally applicable to most situations and people.)

If you can put up with all that, welcome aboard.

24. The flip side
Is that most of the time when you are concerned about an issue, you look to see what your Dem rep is doing and he's already where you're at. So there's no need to take action at all. That's the way it is with DeFazio anyway. Wyden is that way about 90% of the time. So even though I'd be willing to adopt you, you wouldn't have any emails you'd need to be sending to my reps anyway. :)

My reps suck but I guess they help keep the burrs under our saddles. As long as they're in office, we all have to keep up the pressure.
