Is America ready for a female president?
With Commander-and-Chief premiering tonight, I had to ask this question.

1. So did 50,000 billboard signs.
:D

America might be... for TV.

But REAL life? They're as thick as the fools who go to city town hall meetings and bitch about gov't wasteful spending while not knowing how much their elected officials "earn" and what they do to get more once they leave office...

2. Don't Know
But I can tell you this, had a woman been elected in 2000, we wouldn't have sent troops to Iraq. We would have sent them to Ivory Coast.

OK - we all know we went to Iraq for oil. But, Ivory Coast has chocolate and there was a civil war there last year threatening to interrupt their chocolate exports.

Of course, any Republican lady president would talk of the need to reduce our dependence on foreign chocolate.

Still run by and for men - still too many mysogenists. Women can't even get into a boardroom still (except to serve coffee). No way can one get into the White House. Karl Rove could possibly put enough lipstick on one of the Repig females and Diebold could rig the machines enough again to get one of those in there maybe. But that kind of women is worse for women than mysogenist men. And, that elephant would still be a pig.

13. Rather than pointing out how misogynistic and bigoted your reply is
I will simply ask if you prefer a mentally ill, drug addicted alcoholic to your stereotype of a woman?

It is simply astonishing that some nations which we consider less "advanced" than the US have or have had women as head of state & do not have the same racial & gender inequities that are found here.

Unbelievable.

but go read some of the discussion forums set up for this show... and decide for yourself how much these people are playing or being serious. And think back for a minute about perceptions voiced everywhere about assorted first ladies (or potential first ladies) be they Dem or Repub.
I think we have some work to do.

26. Most women would be post-menopausal by the time they
could be POTUS. So PMS would not be a factor.

Actually, PMS would not be a factor anyway. If a particular woman has a harmone cycle so bad that it made her unstable, she would not be able to be elected anyway. The instability would have limited that individual woman earlier.

31. Plenty of women haven't hit menopause until in their fifties...
But if a woman had to take prescribed meds for the symptoms it would already be an indication of the strong severity. Thing is, would a man go under the same kind of scrutiny? Say they had depression or something else that would need medication.

24. Can't speak for America
but this tired old man thinks it's overdue. I think we all know that sex is the least important qualification for choosing a public servant.

I want the person with the best background and skills to do the job.

I want the person who has the strength of conviction to present their ideas on their merit. Without the guidance of million dollar PR representation.

I want the person who can recognize talent and make the most of it.

I want a competent, honest, and functional government.

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter what I want.

25. I think so
Women senators and congresscritters get reelected at the same percentages that men do.

I don't think there's a big advantage today one over the other.

So how about some women running?

I think Hillary runs and easily wins the nomination. Good chance to win the presidency too.

Just consider the disparities in pay and glass ceilings. Women are not considered equal.

32. of course we are
there are no good reasons to not have a woman president ... any uproar over it is just made up, bluster and anger based on prejudice and ignorance.

If people would quit making such a damn big deal about it, it would happen sooner.

Stop asking if we're ready, and just do it. We're just as ready for our first woman president as were for our first man president.

same old debate from 25 years ago, and I guess we'll be debating it 25 years from now... :boring:

Everybody can see that women CAN run things...DUH -- it's so obvious... but men don't want to let go of the power. The only way a woman can run for president is if American men are finally ready to let that happen. As for Hillary, the Right would be ecstatic if she got the nomination and then they'd proceed to crucify her to the bone. If you thought swiftboating was bad, you ain't seen nothin. The only woman who'd have a hope of being elected in the current climate would be some rightwing tool like Condi, and we don't want that I assume.

Things are so retrograde now that I don't even think our daughters will ever see a woman president in this country. Meanwhile this whole question "are we ready for a woman president" is getting so old it's just plain boring. I'm ready to give up on it and just settle for a man who has a clue about women.

39. Well, the real question is: Is Amerika ready for a female Emperor?
And since the Imperial Subjects of Amerika DO NOT select their Emperor, that decision rests with the Diebold-Bushevik Axis.

I don't see it happening for the same reasons a Negro will not be allowed, even as a placeholder between Bush Emperors (got to maintain the lie that Imperial Amerika is still free).

Because women, Jews and Negroes, while they can serve the Imperials, they can never truly BE Imperials.

The Bush Family is like the Mafia in this regard, as it is in so many regards.
